Page 1 of Got a free SKY+ box last night, want one?

A guy from Virgin Media did door to door sales and offered to give me £10 a month off the V+ service (similar to sky+ but apparently better) for the first 6 months.
This was based on the Virgin XL TV package which was £21/ month. (you can look on the virgin website and check all the details).
Very impressed until you read the list of channels you get :(
Anyway, rang SKY and told them I wanted to cancel my subscription and give them the 1 month notice.
They pass you on to the cancellations department where they ask for why you want to cancel. Gave the details I got from Virgin and they go on about reducing your package (I was on the old SKY World which was £43.50 a month. I told them we only watch the Nickleodeon and disney channels for the kids (we do!) as these channels are available on the Virgin XL TV package.
You then tell them about the V+ service and how much better it is than SKY+, they will offer you a SKY+ box for £49, reject it and say the Virgin one is free, hey presto 2-3 mins later after `a word with the manager` you get the SKY+ box. Getting mine next week all free installation, etc. Check the virgin website and see if you can get it first then go for it, you might get it.

Its a Sky Card im after that will get me c4 e4 film4 c5 etc, got mates old card but dont get all the free channels unfortunately :(

phone sky and ask fro a "freesat" card. they`ll charge you £20 for it but it`ll get you all the free-to-air channels, although E4 is a pay channel under Sky T&Cs if I remember rightly.

Tried and got nowhere because they didnt recognise the box etc and it wouldnt be connected to the phone line. :(

Why dont you just get a cheap Freeview box for £20?

Did you have to pay the extra £10 per month for Sky+, MISS RJ?

:) hi yeah i have to pay £10 a month extra but think of all the time i can spend watching movies in peace in my room with a bottle of wine and a box of chocs, thats gotta be worth a tenner, ;) ;) ;)

Well folks I managed to get a brand new Sky+ 160 box for £49 and no additional £10 a month!
