MX-5 1.8i Sport £199.99 a month delivered

For those in the market for a new car, the above is available on a 24 (3+ 23) contract hire. This is a personal contract, price includes VAT and Road Tax. Cheapest I was offered elsewhere was £320. My Titanium one is coming Friday, couldn`t be bothered worrying about 54 plates, summer`s a` wasteing.

Hi,

I might be interested in this. But not too sure how it all works? What are all the costs involved? Is it a better option than saying purchasing the same vehicle but one that is 3-4 years old?

Whats (3+23) and the difference between Contract hire and personal contract hire?

Cheers,

G

£199.99 a month is rental including VAT. Whether this works out better than buying depends on the depreciation of the car involved. As far as I can see, I`m paying £5,200 for 24 months hire including road tax. A new car looks likely to have depreciated by at least that, and I can hand the car back at the end of 24 months. Bear in mind that this deal only allows 20,000 miles over the 2 years, there is a charge if you exceed this. My wife and I currently do about 18,000 miles a year and we have another car so we should be ok.

the 3 +23 means you pay 3 months (£600) as the first months payment, then £200 each month thereafter.

Difference between contract hire and personal contract hire is that contract hire is always quoted ex VAT so looks cheaper than it is (if you can`t recover VAT, that is). Some leasing companies will only lease to business users, bu personal contracts are becoming more common.

The rate quoted by Leasesave is very competitive, another company hung up on me when I told them what I`d been quoted.

Bear in mind you are sihgning an agreement obliging yourself to meet the payments for 24 months, if you terminate early a penalty is chargeable.

On topic, but off this partic car, VW Beetle convertibles are quite cheap on CH at the moment, as it is estimated that they will only lose 24% of their value over 3 years. Minis cheapish too.

It`s all relative tho, as a student the idea of buying a car fpor more than a coupe of hundred quid would never have crossed my mind. Took until I was 40 before I bought a brand new car, and then only cos buying an import was cheaper than buying a second hand UK sourced car. Bizarre, build them in England, ship them to Germany, bring them back, and that makes them cheaper. Crazy world. (MG estate, if anyone cares.) And why am I leasing a 2 seater with 2 small kids. They can`t go in it, that`s why, freedom, yeehaaa!

Delivered yesterday. Can`t stop smiling :) :). No catches, everything just hunky dory and it`s stopped raining. Only problem is wife is convinced its for her sole, personal use. Must instruct her otherwise,....oh, she`s not here, she`s just popped out for a pint of milk, or a paper, or some teabags.

Can`t praise leasesave enough, really was painless, sent them a mountain of idea a two forms which they emailed to me, they phoned a week later to say they had sourced a car at a local dealer, did I want it kow or did I want to wait for a 54 plate. Told them, NOW!!, they sent another form ,we sent it back car deliveerd about 4 days later. Sorted.

Gemscot, did you decide to get one? Little as I get to play with it, it is soooo much fun. Other cars are SAAB 9000 2.3 turbo (now sold to pal) and MGZT-T 190, both faster, but they don`t have the wheeeeeeee! factor. Go on, you know you want to..
