RE: xbox or Gamecube?

Thanks everyone, appreciate the input. I think it`s going to be the gamecube. The more I think about it the more sense it makes. And having had a wee search on the games mentioned they look more up his street.

Thanks again.

By the way, this Christmas lark is getting way too stressful, it was never like this when I wanted presents!!!!! :)

xbox or Gamecube?

Hi with the PS2 debacle (have had an order on Amazon since the 10/11/2004 and they now say Jan 2005 est), I`ve got realistic (not like me) and decided to look at both the gamecube and the xbox. My son is 6. What would be most suitable. I really am a newbie in this field video games started and ended with defender for me!!!

Given I`m sure a lot of folk will be having simialr thoughts, I`m trying to educate myself quick but nothing beats good old owrd of mouth.

He`s not going to be playing things like Halo and the like, any thoughts, and any decent bundles on offer.

Thanks a million everyone

mini dv camcorder. . .help!!!

Hi

I have just got a loan of a panasonic mini dv camcorder (NS-DV60) to film my little boy`s birthday. I put the footage into the computer and done a wee edit for his grandparents. . . and us!!

Problem is I cant get the footage back into the camera, turns out it`s only dv out not dv in. Is there any way to bypass this by some sort of hack or something. Pretty frustrating (although I cant really moan as a friend was good enough to loan me) as they haven`t stepped out of the 20th century yet and are stil kicking about with VHs!!

Any help gratefully received

Cheers
J

RE: Best films to watch on Christmas Eve to get you into the spirit?

I love Merry Chrsitmas Charlie Brown (and coming out on DVD early November methinks.) As well as the usual suspects of Srooged, Nat Lamp Xmas Vac, and Anal Penetrator 4 (dont ask always gets me in the mood though)

but the oscars tend to go for films with a plot for best film, rather than someone shoving their own biased views down your throat for 90 minutes

Nah, the oscar tends to go to mediocre, lowest common denominator sh*te!! Hey, thats only my opinion however just look at the best film winners for the last 20 years.

RE: What`s left to do with you life?

Hi chewie, a lot more awake now. As much as there`s a fair bit of rambling (I hardly post then in the space of 10 minutes replied with two ramblers to 2 different topics, ah, the beauty of the internet.

Quote:
But it`s not just a personal thing, I want to affect people in some way when they see something, and the best moments I get are when people go "wow, how`d you do that?" or when they ask for a copy so they can watch it again and show their friends/family

Thats the point though. It`s family and friends who it`s important to touch, not the 50 million other people who see a blockbuster and love/hate it. I`m not a massive Star Wars fan but I love the fact George Lucas, can create something that folk love and free himself enough to make what the hell he wants with it. Folk moan and criticise him for that. Why? If you cant do these thing for yourself why bother.

Likewise the best most innovative music of the past 40 years hasn`t come from the best musicians. (In fact there`s a pretty good argument the dullest music has been produced by the best musicians) It`s come form folk who`ve thought, I fancy trying that. . .and why shouldn`t I try that. . . and what would happen if I did this. Break the rules, find your own voice and if only 1 person see`s/hears/reads what you produce. . .so what. If they liked it what an impact to have made on someones life. Priceless.

Good luck whatever you or anyone else may try.

Anyone thought of going out and doing some voluntary work for people who need help or company?

My brother actually worked for the VSO for 3 years in Tanzania/Zanzibar. He swears by the experience.

I still have ambitions to make films (short/long/fat/thin, etc) I graduated from film school 14 years ago, with high hopes and ambitions but it wasn`t the world I wanted to inhabit. It`s only in the last few years that I`ve started doing things again and recognised what it`s all about.

It`s not about making money and having people say how good/bad/indifferent your work is. It isn`t even about how technically good/bad it is, I think it;s all about doing it. Having something completed and leaving your footstep, even if it is only for your partner/family/friends. I think it`s that personal.

As great as some films/painting/songs are, thats not for me, I just want to document the small corner of this planet that I inhabit. No matter what it`ll be a success becuase I`ll have made it. Same should go for you guys wanting to write books etc, doesnt matter if it gets published, sells a million, a trillion even (can I get a loan please?;) ), it`s about writing that final word and knowing it`s finished. Lets face it how much stuff that gets a budget/gets printed/put on disc, do folk actually like? A really small percentage if you think about it. It means nothing, just that some guy, somewhere thought this could make him money, was nothing to do with the person who wrote it.

Anyway enough of these ramblings, I`m of to bed now, night, night (it`s 9.20am but it`s been a real drunken night!!)

RE: Im devastated and my heads in bits...

Mate, I`m sure at this particular time your head in spinning with confusion. Bottom line no-one can say anything to change that.

I was actually going to type a lot more however ultimately I dont think I can add to this. i guess the only thing to be said is your not alone in these thoughts and you will get over it.(there`s 3 pages of posts on here to back that up)

You may never understand it, ultimately I dont think thats important, I always assumed if I understood what was behind these events I would be able to feel better, till one time I did and it opened up even more doubts and questions. The reality is it`s over and yo have a great life to continue. People will come into your life and people will go. And if they touch you positively then. . .hey, you`ve gained something, no matter what.

Ramblings of a guy who`s still looking

All the best. . check out the bazonga`s on that one!!!! :D

RE: RIP Ray Charles

Still one of the best purchases I`ve ever made, The Complete Country & Western Recordings 1958-1986. A 4 disc boxset with beautiful hardback book as well. An absolute must have IMHO, and I`m sure I only paid about £18 from Amazon about 4/5 years ago.

I`d recommend to anybody.

He`ll be sorely missed indeed.

:(

Spinal Tap. . .superb, had me in stitches reading that brought back a lot of happy memories.

RE: $#&*%!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How long have you got!?

I dont think any one cretin can claim total responsibility thinnks it got to be group responsibility. Firstly we have BT (top of a lot of folks list. . . up there at the very least!!) Secondly anyone who retorts with the old chestnut, "It`s a free world/choice/opinion*" [*delete as appropriate] (I like my delete as appropriate`s :)) So what an` who the hell ever said that was the case.

I cant remember who it was said this (wasn`t me originally) Chomsky/Casteneda or something like that. . .

How can you expect any good from a planet infested by scum (or soemthing along
those lines!!!!

I guess I need to renew my anger management membership, either that or invest in some serious hardware.

$#&*%!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anybody else $#%&`d of with this PC BS and just want to waste someone permanently? Not saying you`ll do it or that I`ll do it (maybe`s I, maybe`s no!) just that it`s becoming more and more a possibility the more I hear inane, trite, p^sh masquerading as concern/respect/opinion/altruism/etc, etc, etc*

RE: Innapropriate TV

Surely, this is going to mean underage porn is now illegal even though it`s called underage, so you knew what you were buying. Damn politician`s!!!

P.s. Is this inappropriate. . . or is the fact that Bill Wyman can happily `fornicate` with a 13/14 year old in full public view, wuth allegedly the mothers consent (of course that must make it right?) and nothing ever done, strike anyone as double standards?

RE: Porn flick titles

A few more titles to bring to the party. . .

Crack To The Future
Romancing The Bone
Poltergash (sounds nasty!!!)
Throbbing Hood
Good Will Humping (have we had this already, cant remember now)
Clitty, Clitty, Bang, Bang
Bare Bitch Project (this should have been one although I dont think it is!!)
Privates Of The Caribbean(The Curse of Slack Beryl)

Keep them coming as they say!!!

RE: 70`s Western TV Series. What`s It Called?

Brilliant, The Quest! This was a great series, does anyone remember if he ever did find his sister.

Mark re "Oregon Trail" I`m certain this aired in the UK at some point.

You forget how good Friday night telly was in the 70`s and I dont think thats me romanticing it, just seemed to be more interesting programmes. Does anyone remember the Gemini Man with Ben Murphy (from Alias Smith and Jones) A watch that made him invisible. Anotehr classic. Or of course the Man form Atlantis and the infamous don not try these stunts at home warning. I wonder if this was the first program featuring this warning?

70`s Western TV Series. What`s It Called?

Hi

Does anyone remember a western series, BBC1, on a Friday at 9.35pm (the Starsky & Hutch/MacLeod,etc slot)

The premise was a guy searching for his sister, who I think may have been taken by Native Americans (red indians in the unenlightened 70`s) It was set in a wagon train or something and each week he tried o track down his sister but ended up helping other folk instead (kind of like Mulders journey fr his sister in the X-Files come to think of it)

The name Oregon Trail rings a bell but not sure if this is it or not (or if my memory is just pants. . .always a possibility!!)

Does this mean anything to anybody besides me?

Cheers

J

RE: Kung Fu 1970`s TV Series starring David Carradine Complete 1st Series £16.35p

Urgent Please Help. . .Fonts/Typefaces

Hi

Does anyone know of decent dowload sites for the above? I`m depserate for the ITC Blaze typeface (and more than happy to pay to download) but have never had to do this type of thing.

If you search on google every man and his dog is selling type. Looking for recommendations, this is just to help a friend whose looking to knock out a flyer for a club, so reasonalbe prices none of the $300 I`ve seen, although I have seen for $22 but dont know why the massive difference in price. You can probably tell I`m a novice and ridiculously out of his depth!!!

Any help pointers would be appreciated

Thanks

RE: Where do you go to pitch a TV programe idea?

I had an idea (once!!)sort of reality TV thing, "Mr & Mrs" meets "Changing Rooms". . .Changing Wombs!!

Neighbours swap partners for the week, instead of having Handy Andy you get a couple of established Porn Stars on board (1 per team) and let tham all go hammer and tongs for the week, passing on some tips but hopefully no STD`s (safe sex methinks!!). End of the week you see if it`s made a difference to your sex life and each couple has to guess their partners answers to 3 questions they previously answered.

What the heck you might have fun and you never know might open your eyes and a few doors. Besides the fact could make great veiwing.

By the way this isn`t copyrighted so if someone wants to nick it by my guest, just make sure it`s on terrestial telly (I don thave sky!!)

RE: I forget `The people that time forgot`

aah, Doug McClure (Trampis from the Virginian) Me and my brother loved going to see these movies in the pictures when we were youngsters.

Warlords of Atlantis, The Land that Time Forgot and The People That Time Forgot, each one a classic. I know one of them they were in a diving bell and a massive octopus/foam sea creature, grabbed them and they dropped down into a crevice that brought them into another world again one they were in a submarine and turned up in a world with Dinosaurs (Think this is The Land That Time Forgot)

Are these all out on DVD now?

RE: Empiredirect Shaft Anyone Else This Christmas?

I`m sorry to hear there`s so much people in a similar situation, in this day and age just shouldn`t be happeninig. . .however, I`m getting the very real impression it`s not ED who are the doughballs but me for even thinking they could deliver on what they promised.

It makes me wonder what it`s all about, cancelling orders and boycotting these places just doesn`t seem to get through to them.

Good luck anyway to all who`ve stumbled into their troubled shores.

Empiredirect Shaft Anyone Else This Christmas?

***Beware this`ll probably be a rant, apologies to those easily offended!!**

Ordered a camera and memory card from Empiredirect (for those who dont know the website, I wont post the address becuase you really dont want to use them, trust me!!!) both in stock. Great, I thought excellent price (it`s last seasons stock, so difficult to track down in the shops, but still an excellent camera - Olympus c4000z) Checked the delivery times last - last order for Christmas delviery 3pm on the 23/12/2003, the website proclaims. Spot on so I order, get a telephone call on Friday 19/12 to say thats the order been processed, sent to dispatch will leave depot on Monday 22/12 should have Tuesday, Wednesday at the very latest.

Being of a nervous disposition and as there website tracking is the biggest crock of s*** since dump time in Jurassic Park, (everything you click, takes you back to the same page, like Hampton Court Maze but a lot more bloody irritating - incidently the technical response from E`direct is the severs slow at this time of year, it`s not just the server but the service!!!) i phoned today just to make sure it`s going to arrive tomorrow. I guess it shouldn`t be too big a leap to guess that it`s a Christmas present for someone, who be getting s*** all come Christmas morning. "oh, thats still in our dispatch area, that wont be delivered for Christmas now, sorry." the call handler said, "What, but your website proclaims delivery before Christmas, you phoned me on Friday to confirm just that", I said. "I know but it looks like an IT problem in that the order never created a manifest number" so the f*** what I thought, "Is that right, so what can you do about this" I said "There`s nothing we can do, it`s to late to have couried to dispatch, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah" I think I switched off then, it was either that or rip the phone from the wall.

You know sorry doesn`t cut it the earliest they can deliver is next Tuesday (I`m struggling to work that one out, but I dont work for E`direct so I dont know how f****d up they are!!) why advertise to the contrary and if you make a balls up why not try and rectify the situation, dont just shove in another pile building up. the guy actually said to me they have 14,000 parcels in the dispatch area for delivery tomorrow however only about 1,000 will actually make it in time for Christmas. To the other 13,000, I know how you feel unfortunately, i hope you`ve cooled down sufficiently to enjoy Christmas day and hope there`s no bits and pieces for your kids becuase that`ll be a bugger to explain.

If I hadn`t phoned up today and waited till i came home form work tomorrow, I would have no chance to get anything, other than a multibag of Walkers and a bag of nuts. As it is I`ve little chance as I`m one of the unlucky buggers to be working tomorrow.

It`s the season of goodwill and all that, so Merry Christmasn to everyone, however do yourself a favour and steer clear of this bunch of melon farmers, and you might actually enjoy Christmas day. :(

P.S.Thanks for putting up with my rant:)
