xbox or Gamecube?

eforegg (Competent) posted this on Friday, 3rd December 2004, 20:33

Hi with the PS2 debacle (have had an order on Amazon since the 10/11/2004 and they now say Jan 2005 est), I`ve got realistic (not like me) and decided to look at both the gamecube and the xbox. My son is 6. What would be most suitable. I really am a newbie in this field video games started and ended with defender for me!!!

Given I`m sure a lot of folk will be having simialr thoughts, I`m trying to educate myself quick but nothing beats good old owrd of mouth.

He`s not going to be playing things like Halo and the like, any thoughts, and any decent bundles on offer.

Thanks a million everyone

Gamecube definately. i won`t go into any details on why, but it`s just more fun, and that`s always the most important thing. I`d say that the Xbox is just too adult orientated, and although the Cube is not a kiddie console, it does have more kids games. Get stuff like Mario Kart, which is one of the bundles this year, and definately Donkey Konga.

Hi

depends upon what type of games your son likes really.
the `cube (and nintendo) are perceived as "kiddy" compared
to the PS2 & XBOX, but do make some absolutely fantastic
games like mario, zelda, metroid, animal crossing, fzero.....
the list could go on....and the controller is superb:-D

but.....it`s not selling particularily well and i guess that third
party support for it is not as good as the other two consoles.

the xbox is a great machine, has some great games and
the LIVE scene is cool:-D....but, there may not be that many
suitable games for a 6 year old apart from wrestling and driving
games and a couple of beat `em ups.

tbh, i would go to somewhere like Gamestation and get both
second hand...i saw a `Cube with mario sunshine for £57 and
an xbox with a game for £88

I got all the consoles and my 5 year old step daughter loves the gamecube best, she can use the controller easier and the bongos are just so much fun! She has been playing mario kart recently. Saying that she does like the eyetoy on the ps2 :o .

Is that the time? Give me a minute and I will be there when I finish on the comp!

Thanks everyone, appreciate the input. I think it`s going to be the gamecube. The more I think about it the more sense it makes. And having had a wee search on the games mentioned they look more up his street.

Thanks again.

By the way, this Christmas lark is getting way too stressful, it was never like this when I wanted presents!!!!! :)

Coming late to the thread, but I`d definately go Gamecube too. We`ve got both an Xbox and a Gamecube (but no kids :D ), and I`d say the Gamecube would be a lot easier for your kid to handle. I personally don`t like it much as I find the controller too chunky, but that`s the very reason a kid would like it.

The only reason we`ve got the Gamecube is for Star Wars games :D

Well I just got rid of my Gamecube in favour of an Xbox. Mainly for the fact that there were bugger all games i wanted to play on the GC.

the GC has more stonecold AAA titles but outside that the depth of the range is pretty poor.

I did the same deliberation for our son lat year - went Gamecube - he loves it. ToysRUs have some great bundles on offer as well - go in store though - the website shows them all as sold out (and it doesn`t have the same offers as in store either).

For yourself - an xbox, but for a 6 yr old it HAS to be the gamecube.
