    Synopsis:
    Joe Morse (John Garfield) lifted the receiver, put it to his ear and heard the "click" that signified the beginning of the end - the phone was tapped and Joe started to panic. Becoming the lawyer for crime boss Ben Tucker he thought he was going to make a million, but now the dream was turning sour and Joe`s life was about to come crashing down around him. Abraham Polonsky`s classic film noir has been acknowledged as a great influence by Martin Scorsese and stands as one of the most powerful crime dramas of the 1940s.
