    Review of Stepfather 2, The

    2 / 10

    Introduction

The second in the Stepfather series sees the afore mentioned Stepfather escaping a high security mental institution to again terrorise an unsuspecting single mother and her son in his relentless pursuit of the perfect family.

    Video

The packaging incorrectly states a 4:3 fullframe transfer. What we actually get is a 16:9 non-anamorphic picture, not that it makes any real difference as the quality is pretty poor.

Colours are kind of bland and the picture lacks any real clarity or sharpness. It`s kind of what you`d expect of a budget release such as this and the DVD offers no visual improvements over VHS.

    Audio

As with the picture there is an error on the packaging regarding sound. Instead of the stated Stereo soundtrack we get a fabulously dull Mono one.

The sound is lifeless and lacks clarity and would best be described as very poor. I`ve not heard many worse than this.

    Features

A trailer is all that`s on offer here.

    Conclusion

This type of film was very popular in the eighties and as such it`s aged a little however thanks to some great acting by Terry O`Quinn as the Stepfather it`s still a reasonable way to spend 86 minutes.

It`s a shame that the rest of the cast aren`t up to scratch and it would probably be even more watchable were it not for the poor quality of the DVD so I find myself unable to recommend it as a purchase.
