    Review of Young at Heart

    6 / 10

    Introduction

Do I dwell on the content of this film?

Probably a waste of time if I do, this is one of the many Doris Day/Frank Sinatra films made in the mid 50`s and is an ideal movie for a dull Sunday afternoon or maybe that`s my perception ;-).

It features the usual blend of wit and song and a very strong performance from Sinatra.
Not maybe one of my favourite films from the period but an enjoyable watch never the less and a great insight into what Hollywood really thought of America in the 50`s.

    Video

The disk is presented in an open matte Imperial print (4:3) and from a technical standpoint the print is appalling with a lot of grit and over softness being present throughout.

However considering the print is 50 years old and the DVD does not claim to be a `remastered special edition` or such like then I guess the picture is serviceable and is a little better then VHS.

The menus are simple and functional.

    Audio

Well, on the Audio front we are looking at nothing special.
It`s recorded as Dolby Stereo but is in fact a mono track.
Dialog and music is clear if a little thin.

    Features

We get a simple short trailer for the film and that your lot.

    Conclusion

If you have a soft spot for 50`s musicals or `brat pack` films then there is little to stop you getting this. It`s better then the VHS version and can be found for about the same money due to it`s budget presentation.
