Review of Casper: A Spirited Beginning/Casper Meets Wendy

    5 / 10

    Introduction

Presented here we have one of the many straight to video kid`s double features that creep out this time of year to keep the kids amused during the summer holidays.

In the double feature we have `A Spirited Beginning`, this kept little niece`s happy for 90 minutes or so and `Casper meets Wendy`, this was a little to American even the pallet of 9 year olds and they soon lost interest.

    Video

The disk is presented in pan and scanned 4:3 full screen and lacks a good bit of definition leading to a slightly soft overall look and a noticeable difference of quality between the CGI and live action scenes.

It has to be said though that the intended audience will most lightly not be worried with such things.

    Audio

The audio on these disks are nothing remarkable in the slightest. `A Spirited Beginning` has a 5.1 mix with little use of the rears other then the opening scene. `Casper meets Wendy` on the other hand only manages a pro-logic mix with little to make note on.

Overall, sound is adequate and again the intended audience did not seem to mind.

    Features

Both disks manage to have an epic amount of absolutely no extras.

Not even the standard issue trailers made it on to these disks, much to the niece`s disappointment. The menus are fairly static and uninteresting assuming you ever need to use them (the films start when you insert the DVD).

    Conclusion

Nothing in the slightest noteworthy to say about these DVDs.
They succeeded in keeping little children happy for a few hours, what more can you ask at this time of year.

Don`t expect anything remarkable in content or presentation (the material is straight to video quality after all) but if you see it on the budget shelf you could do much worse in the quest for a little piece and quiet.
