Review of Thomas Crown Affair, The

8 / 10

Video

Thomas Crown (Pierce Brosnan) is a self made billionaire for which life no longer has any challenges. In this remake of the Dunaway/McQueen film he decides to steal famous pieces of artwork to get some of the danger back in his life. In the course of these thefts an insurance investigator - Catherine Banning (Rene Russo) who is working to retrieve the artworks, begins to take more than a professional interest in Crown.

The film is taken in 2.35.1 anormorphic widescreen in 36 chapters, and I found with any of the presentation, although problems have been found using other players.

Audio

In my opinion this is an excellent soundtrack, the music only adds to the quality of this excellent film. Sound effects are also well implemented adding to the tension in various key scenes.

Features

A great deal of care has been taken in creating the menu`s in this DVD. The main menu is set in a 360 degree tour of an art gallery. This is the best set of menu`s that I have seen in any film, except `The Matrix`.

There are a number of extras that come with this film, most notable are the 24 minutes long documentary `The Making of Masterpiece` and a full length commentary by Director John McTierman. Overall I could not fault the extra`s provided on this film that have combined to make it an excellent package.

Conclusion

I enjoyed this film immensely and would definitely recommend it to anyone for there next DVD purchase. The film was not let down by the excellent set of features that accompanied especially the animated menu`s that have to be seen to be truly appreciated.

Although other reviews have found problems with some areas of the transfer, I have found none of these, which means I cannot fault any areas of this excellent film
