    Review of Bring It On

    8 / 10

    Introduction

Bring It On is a comedy about a successful American high school cheerleading squad, who`s incoming captain, played by Kirsten Dunst, finds that their award winning routines have been poached from another school. The squad come up with a new routine, but they find that it too is remarkable similar to that used by another team. Banned from using it in the national finals, the team have to quickly come up with something special to retain their title.

    Video

The video is presented in 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen and is of a good standard, with no sign of dirt or grain, and a crisp and colourful image. There are no compression problems, and the picture is stable at all times.

If you`re a fan of attractive young women in cheerleading outfits strutting their stuff then this is the film for you, there is plenty of eye candy on display, and it`s all tastefully filmed. Aside from that, the movie is quite well made, with good use of locations and sets.

    Audio

The soundtrack is presented in both Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS 5.11, and is of a high standard, complementing the excellent visuals. I watched the film with the DTS 5.1 soundtrack, but there is little difference between them as the extra range and power of DTS isn`t utilised by the film.

There is plenty of music and sound effects, but the dialogue remains clear and understandable throughout the film.

    Features

There is quite a good range of extra material available, including a director`s commentary track which gives the usual background and technical information about the film. There are also deleted scenes, extended scenes, a home movie of the car wash scene (babes, bikinis, soap…), wardrobe and makeup tests, a "Did you know" feature that allows you to watch the movie and learn some facts about it, a music video, the trailer and DVD-ROM features including a screensaver and cheer quiz.

The disc is packaged in a black Amaray case, which contains some background information on the movie along with details of the 20 chapter breaks.

    Conclusion

Overall, I found Bring it On to be very entertaining, and in truth much better than I expected it to be. The film achieves this by matching a good cast with a good script, which includes plenty of humour and appealing visuals.

The disc is well presented, with good audio and video, which are combined with a good range of extras.

In summary, an entertaining movie that is a good addition to my collection.
