If you are running Windows XP, it should show up in `My Computer` automatically as a `Removable Storage Device` (or summat!). Double click it and use as normal.

or it might be comming up as drive E: thats already got that drive letter assigned.

You will need to go into Administrative Tools & work your way to disk management to see it & assign a unused drive letter (& while there you could format it as well).

I quite like the Helpdesk people in a benevolent (as opposed to malevolent) way as they do some valuable work in preventing us being inundated by every halfwit who can work a phone.

Also you may have to set the hard drive jumper to master rather than slave or cable select I had to do this with mine. Good luck

As Stu UK mentioned, if you put a HDD into an external case yourself, then set the HDD jumper to master, but if you bought it complete out of the box it should be already configured.

Have you tried switching it on........?
