Strange one this. ECU swap.

Gonna throw this one out there on the off chance someone else has had the problem or done the job.

Got an issue with my old Fusion tdci with an odd intermittent throttle event, it revs on it's own changing gears and a pretty significant throttle delay at junctions. Peddle has been changed and also the EGR on the off chance one was causing the issue. Now i'm moving onto the ECU. Forscan is pretty handy for Fords but it won't write the VIN so I need to source a tool to do the job.

Don't suppose anyone here has encountered the problem?

This is almost certainly no help to you, but years ago I had an old version Citroen Picasso that would suddenly lose power on motorways or when I tried to accelerate. No-one seemed to know what it was. Lived with it for months.

I eventually noticed I could see the reflection of my brakes lights flickering when I wasn't touching the brakes. Looked it up on a Citroen forum. Turns out problem was caused by a sticking brake light switch. As engine management assumed I was pushing the brake it wouldn't also let me also apply the throttle so it would power back.

What appeared at first site to be a complex engine problem was caused by a crappy cheap easily replaced plastic switch under the brake pedal.
