Sky £65 callout charge

Ratopall (Competent) posted this on Sunday, 25th April 2004, 16:18

I am really annoyed, Sky are charging me £65 to come and look at my additional Sky box, that for some reason is not receiving a signal anymore. I know the box works fine, I`ve tested it. So it can only be the LNB or the cable itself. The last time they came out the didn`t charge, it was a faulty quad LNB which was changed to a dual LNB for free. £65 is a joke, they only cover you for 3 months after the callout, and had it been a faulty box, would have replaced it with a reconditioned box.

Hi..
I`ve posted on this subject before (when one of the guy`s was considering changing from NTL to sky)

Ok...So i know 1 or 2 people here don`t rate NTL,but just lately when i`ve had a problem, they`ve called out the next day, with no charge.

I have posted this before, but to cut a long story short,my parents have had sky for 12 years & always the full package.....Last month they had major problems & ended up with a bill over £100.

NTL don`t charge for repairs....So i know who i`m sticking with ;)

You think that`s bad, Telewest have said this - "Please note that from October 3rd 2003, some Call out charges (eg, relocation of wall point, adding phone extension, failure of customer`s equipment, eg TV set or phone) will increase from £25 to £75."

Yet another reason why I will be leaving them behind when I can get an alternate broadband service in my area...

Yeah, NTL are pretty good like that. I had an engineer come out to give do me a new length of cable because i need to move my computer and that was free. And the helpline is freephone too, which is handy.

Aw, people can come up with statistics to prove anything, Kent.
Forty percent of all people know that.

Dont know if you can do this anymore, but my sky reciever packed in two years ago and I was told it would be much wonga to fix it, so I dumped Sky for a few months.

We then joined again at the same address as a new subscriber using wife`s maiden name, getting a `free` installation (took my old dish down beforehand from the back wall),

The irony was the lad installed the new dish in the same fixing holes "thats handy he said", thus getting us up and running again with new equipment.

Luvly jubbly.

Similar thing happened to me recently during the storms we had - my sky died. I rang Sky - couldn`t even get through to a human being. So I found a local satellite engineer who came and sorted the problem for £38 for me.

Bargain

Well, the Sky engineer came out this morning, within 5 minutes it was fixed. What was the problem? The box had crashed. All it needed was a simple reboot. £65, I was without Sky for 5 days and it was fixed in 5 mins! He told me had I been paying cash he would have let me off, and I wouldn't have had to pay, but Sky insisted on the £65 upfront when I booked the service call. The best bit is after looking on some technical forums it seems that the problem (No Satellite Signal Being Received) was caused by a recent software update by Sky. >:(

Same thing happened to my mum & dad a couple of weeks ago. My dad told them to stick the £65 and to cancel their Sky subscription. Funny how this threat resulted in them coming out for free.

On the same theme, I`ll be moving soon and taking my sky dish with me - can anyone recommend a good ariel/dish installer in SE London to put the dish up on my new house?
