I was recently caught by a mobile unit doing 36, and I saw it flash.

Just had a quick look at some sites and people have been done for 35, but they don`t say if they saw the flash.

Have you got a clean licence?

If it`s your car, you could ask Christine Hamilton for advice!!! :D

The types of camea don`t flash

I was caught by one of these camera`s doing 57mph on a 40mph road and it didn`t flash.

You may be lucky in the fact that with any speed camera there is a built in error margin of 10% + 2mph to take into account inaccuracy of car speedo`s

So for a 30mph road add 10% + 2mph makes 35mph

Yeh - your speedo may have read 35mph, but the camera may have you at 34, thus you`ll get away with it. Depends how accurate your speedo is.

As said on this weeks Top Gear - Under EU law you have the right to remain silent. When you get something through the post asking who was driving use this right.

Also the police need to maintain a visible presence when attempting to catch speeders. i.e. drivers should be able to clearly see the camera or van so them parking around a sharp bend or behind a bridge negates their ability to make the charges stick. You can contest the speeding ticket if, as you seemed to indicate, they were parked partially obscured by the skip. Certainly this does apply in Scotland, not so sure about England & Wales.

Don`t know about the camera needing to flash, IMO, if it`s anything like ordinary photography then the amount of ambient light must have a bearing on whether or not it flashes. In my area they use a van labelled Arrive Alive (so Mr Plod doesn`t get wet now when it rains as he used to). Thing is, in one place they park up in what I suppose you`d call a deceleration lane, very close to a junction. Against the Highway Code IMO.

Gastso`s need a flash, where as the speed camera`s that are used in the back of North Wales`s many Arrive Alive van need no flash they are all digital.

If you want to know all about cameras, detectors, jammers etc etc goto

http://www.ukspeedtraps.co.uk/frames.htm

BTW I use a cyclops GPS based warning system, simple and good value. Tells me when I approach a fixed camera and what the speed limit is. Really nice bit of kit.

I don`t intentionally speed around town and on minor roads but who wants to drive round concentrating on a speedo all the time? Surely you want to be looking out the windscreen? Trouble is your speed can creep up.
