Hi all ive just got myself a new dvd recorder with harddisk (80 gig) from richer sounds for £300 (cheepest i could find on the net)

what i need to know is.... can the harddisk be changed for a larger one ,somthin like a 200 gig or 250 gig?

I havent opened it up so i dont know whats inside (make or type). has anyone took a peek inside of one yet or better still bunged a 200/250 gig drive in place of the rather small 80 gig... cheers in advance....baz

RE: Anyway of speeding up a 56K modem?

go adsl it rocks i have a conexant modem form dabs and pipex do a 24/7 broadband connection for £24 a month i called them only last week and they had me sorted on the 17th and im getting a 576 kbits download connection and a 288 kbits upload and i get over 60 k downloads depending on the site.
i wouldnt go back to 56k as it would frustrate me having to wait but if you cant get adsl or carnt justify the extra price you could use progs like gozilla where it will manage the file download and pick up where it left off if your connection breaks of GETS CUT OFF EVERY 2 HOURS i used to hate that when i was on freeserve.
try these sites 4 info on adsl...hope this helps...baz

RE: Holidaying in Majorca

best part of the island i think is magaluf or palma-nova
loads of shops bars 4 miles BCM`s is a very big and loud nightclub (my ears were ringing for 2 days) we went near the end of season october we were there the week the twin towers fell to terrorists.
but it was still very lively...every shop sells booze (san maguel) most places done shots of spirit (chasers) when you first go in
the beaches are spot on but get a little cramed with topless chicks of all varities .
there is a few boat rides where u get to see the fish through a glass bottom`d boat and then you can dive in (very deep water but you just float due to the salt content ...do not swallow any it is minging)
there is a german nudest beach on the way back to shore that gives everyone a laugh (look there`s a brockwerter sausage!!!!!!).
scuba diving is avalible but u must do a 1 day course with certificate and a good offshore dive.
drink prices varied but the rule is dont buy at the sea front
eg diet coke 2 ltr 350pts seafront and back a few streets 100 pts
its all euros now but it will be the same in euroes now
a ltr bottle of bacardi was about 7 quid and the tabaco chane of stores were giving a litre of grants away with 1400 benson or a lighters and databank calculators.
we are going back this year too if all works ok.......hope this helps a little and if u need any more info give me a shout....baz

RE: Has anyone got a Toshiba 28ZD06B and are they any good?

i have the 32" z7b and it rocks ..3 scarts with loopthrough rgb feature connectors speaker and sub outs (isnt it funny how people ask about different models of tvs and get the reply about whats on the back..)
picture is spot on and i have the matching dvd sd-220 e mp3 playback and vcd/dvd cd playback also cd-rw compatable but has macro and reigon coding but they both look nice work very well ....baz
it also is s-video ntsc(both modes) , secam & pal.....

RE: What is the best 32" Widescreen TV to get, under £1000??

i have a toshiba z7b 32 " flat screen pro logic and it cost me £900 from scotish power now called power house and its spot on ...just wished i could have had 36" or 40 projector but i over went my budget with the £900 and i bet you could get a nice 100 hz ddigital for less than a grand ...happy shopping....baz

RE: New Toshiba 220

Well i got myself a 220 yesterday for £179 from northern electric team valley gateshead and it seems spot on the only problem i have seen is that every time i switch the dvd`s power on it reverts to 4/3 screen mode and to fix this problem i had to disable my WSS wide screen signaling on my toshiba z7b (32 "widescreen) and ive tried to use all the video modes and screen settings on both tv and dvd aswell as a good quallity scart /video-s and rgb connectors ...
vcd playback is spot on mp3 is the best quality heard so far though the menu is unconventional it does the job.
playback of svcd has not been tested yet but home cinema has a write up on it and it says it also does dvd+r but dont quote me on this ...
in all its a smart looking silver box with buttons that gives quality video and audio what more could your average punter on the high street want for £179 and a brand name thrown in too

RE: Aldi are selling the MEDION MD4310 for £99.99, any good ?

I got one today and at first it looked like the 2nd dvd player to add to my video hardware collection , as i fancied a newer but cheeper player
My first attempt failed miserably as i got one from Macro for £80 and it died after 5 mins (power supply fault)
after i got my Aldi Median dvd home it played dvd video fine ,mp3`s spot on and super on the playback of vcd`s but did note the zoom function made the picture pixelated and also mp3 playback was limited as it played the mp3 disk track by track and it wasnt useful enough to select albums on the disk.
but apart from that everything looked fine until i used my toshiba tv remote to up the volume and found most keypresses on the tv remote ran the dvd player so next was the vcr remote and the cable remote all to find i had the worlds first universal remotable dvd player so it went back and now i have my eye on a toshiba 220 with mp3 playback /vcd/cd player from currys for £179 with 3 dvd films (perfect storm, friends and another which didnt sound intresting enough to remember the name of it!)

RE: Aiwa XD-DV290

If its not on this site it may be only chippable and it would be best to shop around for a rce compatable mod chip or if it becomes a costly affair sell it and get a aiwa 370 (remote modable) but macro cant be disabled but i have had no problems as i have a svhs jvc video and the macrovision doesnt touch it....baz

RE: Wharfdale M5 sorted now??

Its common knowledge that you never buy a car in the first year of production as the odds are stacked against you .
if its going to go wrong it will! and after a few mods it is usually sorted unless you own a lada and then its broke forever(only kidding these lada jokes are gettin old) but in dvd years it may only be a couple of months till the right mod comes out but like in the car world if you want a bmw or audi like the sony or pioneer dvd but cant afford the price tag you may have to go for a mid range ford or vauxhall like the aiwa or go for a low spec lada like the alba or lasonic but if you dont know this your not breathing .
ps i have a vauxhall vectra its not new and it is a s***e green colour but it shifts like a chicken in mc donalds and the outcome is if works ok for you thats all that matters ...baz

RE: Widescreen choice advice

Hi Samantha......baz :-+
ps nice telly

RE: Centre Speaker - Do you really need it at home?

In a word yes you do need a center speaker in any surround sound system cos all your vocals come though this way that goes for dd 5.1 and pro logic aswell unless your tv has it built in and you dont want a seperate hifi decoder (that is the best way) but having it on the tv as better than nothing at all and i remember people saying" i have a nicam stereo tv should i put speakers on it " the answer is yes again because it gives you seperation between channels and a more realistic sound ! hope it helps ....baza

RE: 36

Yep sure i would have a projection Tv but would rather have the full monty cinema projector with all the trimmings but i would require a massive basement room soundproofed and carpeted everywhere and some nice 5.1 and a big cooler full of beer,crisps,icecream...ohhh bugger im dreaming again well thats what its all about gettin the best out of what you can afford...but mind if the lottery comes in woo hoo ile just buy myself a string of uci `s and odeon`s and your all invited with free beer ,crisps chocolate....girls...ohhh bugger im off again well thats the love of dvd for ya all....baz

RE: 32`` Widescreen Telly for £299

yep clayts they will suff up our tv licences as usual or force us to change by changing out broadcast standards and then big brother will be watching....!!!!!!
sure its nice to have a digital signal but then its the v chip that then lets you know that its not sutable for us standard tv viewers and then when our licences have been split into 10 viewing catogories 1 for cartoons and normal bbc itv ch4 stuff and then 10 for hard core xxx and between them a few movies thrown in for good measure and remember if you dont pay your tv licence on time you will be bloody switched off or get a big red warning flashing onscreen saying were setting the dogs on you cos you are a day late in paying up!!!! woo hooo the mind boggles
Its just nice to know that the v chip also stops children viewing any unsutable material (even the tellytubbies) but so does hiding the remote controll......baz :-{))

RE: VHS/DVD trades - Want to trade my VHS`s somehow for DVDs, but want to find a way that is good.

do a car boot sale after you have asked everyone else whats the best film they like from your collection and make the most from yout box sets and collectors editions ,Then when all else fails try free adds papers like supermart and admag or the name of your local rag....
and then look for the vhs fiends that will come drooling and asking for your little gems and make your kill and go shopping
its just common sense...baz

RE: 32`` Widescreen Telly for £299

yep Briley but remember they said that about sky sat tv and its gettin its astra birds plucked!!!! well there being converted into 72 hard core porn channels.....no only kidding as the astra link is being used by cable modems so you can download software via the net (with phoneline for uplink and dish for downlink) and the rest of them will end up as space junk as onboard resources fuel, power is near the end.......:-(
it was good while it lasted and i remember my first white amstrad dish is cost me 300 from dixons and it was a brilliant buy as i recieved free sky movies for a year or so....dont forget filmnet...long live hotbird satellite....baz

RE: Widescreen choice advice

markster you must remember if the text "im on a budget" comes into the equation you may have to either go for a non surround widescreen tv or pro logic at the most as dolby digital is out the window for a budget tv set.
I have just purchased a toshiba pure flat screen 32" pro logic (not essential as i have a surround amp on my hi-fi seperates) but the model i went for was all in for £750.00 (no stand) from scotish power which was a managers reduction and i am quite happy with the set but as for other models thompson is connected with ferguson tvs so its not too bad a brand name as for budget sets its either a trip to alba tv land or keep some hard cash by your side and look for a reduced managers model as there is quite a few about as summer time is the best time to buy a tv as sales are down in this part of the season
ps i seen a 36 " phillips 100 hz surround sound tv for £1500 at northern electric at the team valley gateshead but ended up going for the tosh as i like tosh tvs(just wish i had a big projector job ....maybe in the future! baz

RE: 36 Advice- Please

going for a 36" may be a little bit too much to ask for as £1000 max to spend on a tv may be a little under budget maybe another 500 on top will kill the deal for you and would be worth the extra !
I was in the same situation and found myself in scotish power and i ended up buying a toshiba 32 " widescreen to update my 8 month old alba which bought for the 34 " screen size, before i got my hands onto a dvd player (aiwa 370) .
After buying a copy of the matrix and seen the hated black bars and film with less screen size that a strip of toilet roll i knew it was time for the widescreen!
after you make the big buy you will aquire a taste for home cinema in no time at all...ps if you cant go the extra 500 or so there is quite a few good 32" screens at good prices ...baz
