baztheman (Competent) posted this on Friday, 4th February 2005, 13:33

Hi all ive just got myself a new dvd recorder with harddisk (80 gig) from richer sounds for £300 (cheepest i could find on the net)

what i need to know is.... can the harddisk be changed for a larger one ,somthin like a 200 gig or 250 gig?

I havent opened it up so i dont know whats inside (make or type). has anyone took a peek inside of one yet or better still bunged a 200/250 gig drive in place of the rather small 80 gig... cheers in advance....baz

When you do `rip it open`, you will find that it is a standard hard disk. However, what isn`t standard is the formatting used on the disk. It isn`t any of the standard formats used, so simply shoving a 200GB drive in won`t work. I have been watching several forums waiting for the same question to be answered before I opt for a HDD recorder.

Personally I find 80 gig hard drive is sufficent, 30 hours of recording at the rate I record, when it starts to fill up just dub over to dvdr at quick speed, no problem. Only ever got to under 5 hours once.

I tend to record programmes want to keep in SP and programmes I know I never keep in LP keeps the space down.
