RE: NTL/Telewest Free Wireless Router

advise them that sky broadband is now available in your area for only £10 per month and is there anything they can do .i did and got 10 meg half price for 3 months and was advised to ring when 3 months is up to extend it again for another 3 months which i will do.by that time sky may not have any more teething problems so if it isnt offered i will go to them at that time.call me stingy if you like, lol.

RE: Why a partial NO SMOKING ban will never work

I speak from both points of view as i was a long term smoker until nearly 3 years ago when i decided to pack up and have not had one since. The thing that i think about is that if a total ban occurs where will the government get the funds they currently rake in from all the smokers. When you consider probably 75% of each packet is tax does that mean we will pay more if everyone stops smoking.not being a regular pub goer that is not a big issue to me .The main thing that frustrates me is the way some companies allow smokers breaks for smoking whilst all non smokers continue working and probably within a 8 hour shift a smoker might get an extra 30-45 minutes not working .perhaps companies should offer non smokers more money than smokers(as if).just my tenpence worth

RE: Endoscopy

i had one about a year ago and i dont remember anything about it as i was put under under NHS.i was scared at the time that i would be aware what was going on and the gagging idea but none of it came to fruition.hope it all goes well but i dont think it is anything to worry about.sure you will still worry on the day, that is only natural when having something done that you havent come across before

RE: Obese people: source of warmth or object of discrimination?

surely it is a case of choice.supposedly we live in a free society so whether you want to drink or not is irrelevant.i drink socially but dont feel the need to drink alcohol in the house but that is my choice.if Hulk decides he doesnt want to drink, who are we to say he is right or wrong, whatever the reasons.

RE: 24 meg broadband. Crikey.

found this on www.adslguide.org.not much info yet but may help

Be look set to unleash a new round of price wars in the UK broadband market place. Today sees the official launch of their ADSL2+ service, which offers download speeds of up to 24Mbps and upload speeds of up to 1.3Mbps for just £24 a month for residential users, and £75 per month for business use. More details at www.bethere.co.uk

The service activation is £24 and is offered via a shared LLU line, meaning your existing BT telephone line remains unaltered, but Be will unbundle the DSL part of the line to connect it to their own hardware at the exchange. The LLU element will mean the service is limited in availability to those exchanges where Be has installed its own kit. The maximum speeds quoted are actually the ATM speeds of the line, so maximum TCP/IP throughput on a perfect line would be around 21.5Mbps downstream and 1.1Mbps upstream. Also it is worth bearing in mind that ADSL2+ is very distance dependent, i.e. that speeds approaching the maximum are only likely on a line less than 1km long. If your line can manage 2Mbps under existing BT limits, then switching to ADSL2+ is likely to give a significant speed boost. For those only getting 1Mbps and 0.5Mbps, the biggest difference is likely to be the upstream speed.

The service is promoted as `24/7 unlimited downloads` but a fair use policy does exist, which states "What about excessive network usage? If it`s felt that any member`s Internet activities are so excessive that other members are detrimentally affected, Be may give the member generating the excessive web traffic a written warning (by email or otherwise). In extreme circumstances, should the levels of activity not immediately decrease after the warning, Be may terminate that member`s services." So those who enjoy attempting to download the whole Internet may need to consider others.
