most dvd players will read dolby and dts discs but few have decoders in them. if yours has then just go through the menu and turn it off.
check your speaker system has the decoder built in, most do.
connect the digital out and there you go.
watch out for some discs which will play in stereo unless you change the menu to dolby.

I have just left freeserve broadband after my contract finished. They admited owing me money after a mix up but after 12months (and too many phone calls)of not getting it back I said sod off...............
Moved to Telewest and got the same 512 speed and been happy with the customer care.
Got a letter this morning saying all 512 speads are now upgraded to 750 for free.
also 1mb is 1.5mb and 2mb is 3mb.
Even happier now with Telewest cant complain with that!!
You can bet your ass freeserve would only do this for new customers and for the poor sods that are already on contract would get bugger all.
its been a while since I felt a large company cared.
just checked my speed and its 725 down and 125 up.

Thanks for all the replies, its ok testing your speed but without other peoples data its just a figure.
just done mine again and actual speed is 422/117
so not too bad compaired with the other results
just another point, My speed has gone up by the expected 10 times when downloading from peer to peer sites (compaired to my old 56k)
if I upgraded to 1mb would I see this download speed double???
please let me know your experiences (1mb and 2mb users)
broadband speed
Had 512 from Freeserve for a year and have just changed over to Telewest 512 cable.
What speeds should I now get from this connection???
My freeserve speed was usualy good, had 480 last week when I checked but have only got 430 from my new cable connection tonight.
If you beleve what we are told, then my cable connection should be faster on average than my phone line connection (line not sheared) Is this true? what speeds are you cable users getting?? I was expecting close to 500.

Got one a few months ago, dont get a 64 its just not bit enough, go for at least 128
I got a Napa. I did quite a lot of looking around and this make was very competative.
Mine is 128 with screen and plays wma as well, cost me 70 quid, and should be cheaper now. Give this brand a good luck.

I do work in retail and i think this sounds pants to me
If it blows up after 11 months then its Pc world who will have to sort it out.
Than can send it for repair and not give you a new one, but not tell you tough titty ring up the Manufacturer and sort it yourself.
I have heared officialy shops can still have responsability for a product for up to 7 years after purchase but thats a mine field.
Ps Pc-world are pants had the same prob myself when buying a Ram upgrade.
Got very short with my questions when he realised a was going to fit it my self. 15 quid my arse.

I dont know about that I have my eye on the Kodak 6340 also and It has have very good reviews. Kodak has one of the best colour outputs plus its cheeper 2mp brother just beat all the 3mp cameras in a recient mag review (on image quality).

PS2 on line (How to connect)
How does this online thing work?
I have a ADSL connection and a PS2.
So I buy the thingy to put into the back of the PS2 and connect that to my Modem
My modem is the one that came free with freeserve (Copperjet 800 USB)
Can I use this?
Does my PS2 connect using my Freeserve number ie at no extra cost.
Is there any type of charge I will be paying extra other than my monthly to Freeserve?
Ps Freeserve still owe my money so will be moving to Telewest in the spring does there cable modem work??

went onto currys site and it is as you say.
As long as this new lead will change my tv to av then im sorted.
I will at some point get the thing fixed but with the Xmas expense id rather wait.
As I said I cant manualy change channel at all even to av.
PS2 chipping
How much should it cost to get my ps2 chipped and is there anything to worry about.
ie it goes wrong and Im left with a cup holder.

Come on chaps its a simple question.
if you buy the upgrade scart lead from sony ( not the cheap one provided)
does your TV auto change channel to the AV when you power up your PS2.
In the same way as your DVD player and Sky box etc etc.

G cube ( 5.1 sound??)
I have a ps2 and you chaps say there are no 5.1 games.
I am buying a G cube for the kids and does this machine have a digital output and does it give 5.1 sound??
I have a cinema amp so connecting is no problem.

PS2 auto switching on scart
My tv is capput (read hardware forum)
my tv will not auto detect the ps2 signal and switch to the av channel as it does with my sky box and dvd player.
I got a reply saying if I use a proper ps2 scart and not the crappy phono to scart connection then it will then work
Is this right ????
Dont want to spend the money for nothing.

TV problem and PS2
My 28inch Sanyo tv blew an internal fuse after 10 months. It was repaired under waranty and was ok until last week when it blow again. Its now 18 months old so I changed the fuse my self. The tv powered up ok but the remote doesnt work at all or the tv buttons for changing channel or sound level. Plus there is no sound at all.
I have a picture only. It will auto detect the av inputs so will chang from Sky and dvd when I power these up, but thats it. I am getting sound via my cinema amp.
Any one had a similar problem?
Ps I cant find any way of using my Ps2 because it wont auto detect its signal. Is this because the Ps2 has not got a true scart to scart connection??

Sorted it. my Zone Alarm firewall was stopping it.
Dialog box could me more specific from Avg, so try that people It may be your problem too

Cant get me free addition to update, it can never find the internet connection
just says try manualy open browser which doesnt solve the problem.
If I go the the web site and down load the updates my self and drop the file into the update folder then this works ok but its a lota hassle.
Im on broardband could this be the problem??
Please help me protect my self from catching something.

They are cheap, I got my Yamaha amp from them and my Tosh dvd player the other year.
The tosh have won all the awards and was in so much demand my local branch took five weeks to get me one, they could only get 5 or so machines a week.
Same prob with the Amp early this year demand far greater than supply but couldnt beet there price.
also web site is dodgy. The Yam amp is available silver or black but the Japs gave these machines two diferent model numbers. The web site listed silver but the shop computer didnt list it so they couldnt order it! had to phone up cust service and aventualy got it sorted out.

Toss Tosh vcd playback
My main player is the all conquering Tosh 230 multi region.( old butt ugly style )
I have aquired a vcd copy of kill bill and the Tosh made this almost unwatchable. sound ok put pic was picsolated (?) and slowed down in the fight sequences.
So I tried it upstairs on my new Cyberhome 400 and not a problem. Pic was almost dvd quality.
Although my tosh 230 has a much better dvd pic (blacks are black and not Cyberhome gray ish ) and will play scratched rental discs which the Cyberhome doesnt. The Tosh is p*** poor at vcds.
I suspect this is due to the age of the software on the Tosh but has anyone hade the same problem.
Ps my chipped Tosh 230 has a screen saver but it has never worked. I suspect this may be because its chipped. Does yours work? ( purchased from Richer Sounds )

Just got my Son the Pacific dvd at Asda, which has received good reveiws.

Due to the price drop I am considering buying the Game Cube for the kids (Xmas).
They both have the Game Boy Advance (old style without flip screen)
I have been told you can use these as controllers for the cube?
What advantages does this have and can you play advance games through the cube?
do you need expensive cables do do this?

Pacific 1001 Asda
Just seen the Pacific in asda for 37 quid. Heared this will play anything but also read it is noisy. Anyone got this model?
Bargains are Ideal for the kids bed rooms but I not buying something that sounds like a hair dryer.
tosh 330 better than the 220
My Tosh SD220e cost me an arm and a leg when it first came out (took some convincing the Mrs) It has awards as long as your arm, but how does this machine compare to the new cheapy ish 330?

Had my Yamaha 5540rds (same model but in silver finish) since Jan and paid over 200 pounds from Richer sounds. (couldnt beat their price at that time)
Had no problems with it and have been very impressed with the sound quality :)
Cyberhome 400 where to buy
I know this product is sold at WH Smiths, but can anyone tell me of any alternative stockists if I get availability problems.
