RE: 4K TV

Great article here which convinced me its pointless and I`ll never need it.  However no doubt once the marketing spin kicks in...you know the rest.

RE: IMDB challenge

What about Ennio Morricone, in total there`s about 600 odd credits. Pretty prolific!!!

First Time Mobile User. . .Help!!!

Hi, after resisting for so long, I`m being made to get a mobile (we get free landline calls from the home phone but a lot of my friends are on mobiles only now, hence increased phone bills)

I seen this, and think it looks okay, can anyone advise. I figure I use roughly 2-4 hours phone time a month, not bothered about a massively fancy phone, it`s only going to be a phone for me :-)

Any advise greatly received.

Thanks

RE: Teen/School Movie

What more can be said. . .

Bring it on

RE: Teen/School Movie

Spot on Girders. Brilliant. Just on eof those films you see when flicking that you forget you`ve ever seen, much like ski patrol, et al

Thanks again

Teen/School Movie

I need some help trying to remember the title of a movie. It`s not even a great movie but not remembering the name is having a detrimental effect on my health!!!

It`s about a new guy in school who masquerades as a cool guy but some guy recognises him from his old school and I think with the help of some kung fu/oriental type guru guy actually becomes the cool guy or something.

I recognise I`m a bit vague and not giving a great deal of info but I`m sure somebody else must have seen it. It`s called "The ************" cant remember the word after The, bit it is only one word. Was made in the last 5/6 years.

Forever in the debt of however can get the title

Cheers

RE: Free Upgade On Flights

I`m spying some Frank Abignale in this thread. I guess somebody watched Catch Me If You Can recently!!

RE: TV Purchase Boob. . .thoughts? . . .help*

We paid with vouchers (we had some DSG vouchers) and visa. I have the box in the hut thought it might have just been put in there no joy!!! Not sure how this price promise nonsense works though, becuase I`d need to wait till my visa statement comes through for proof of purchase that wat.

TV Purchase Boob. . .thoughts? . . .help*

Myself and the wife in a moment of madness bought a new TV in Currys (first new telly in nearly 15 years). A panasonic LCD telly, which is very nice. Bought a week past Saturday. Last Saturday we were having a nosey in our local shops and noticed in Comet the same telly was £200 cheaper. . .S***!!!

Saw the Currys price promise and went home to get the receipt. . .no where to be found despite the fact she files everything (so she says!!)

It`s now Thursday. . .still no where to be found! Since I`ve stopped beating her up I thought I`d better to do something a bit more positive. Can I do anything? On another note whats the deal if something goes wrong during warranty? Does anyone have any experience of a similar situation, can Currys reproduce my receipt?

Anyone with any experience or idea`s will be gratefully appreciated. £200 is a fair bit of money just to let go of, especially at this time of year and with 2 young ones looking for everything thats, plastic, shiny and noisey!!!

cheers

J

RE: William Shatner DVD Film Collector...

Never a great fan of his but that sounds like it would be pretty interesting. I did enjoy The Intruder (I think its` also occasionaly went by the title "I hate You") Roger Corman `B` flick however a pretty good piece of film making.

RE: Great cover versions

Just remembered. . .

In Between Days - Ben Folds Five

RE: The Bodines - Played on CD. . .

Absolutely no joy, I will find it though.

Your right a underrated classic. Still think back to bizarre moments like them playing on that Cheggers Music Programme from Alton towers. I think it was Slipslide although could have been Skankin Queen (memory aint what it used to be). .ahh, they were the days

RE: STAR WARS: EPISODE 3 Anticipation Thread (SPOILERS!!!)

I really liked it. There`s a completion about the whoel thing (although also an incredible sadness)

SPOILER BELOW:

Anybody else like the nugget Palpatine threw in about Darth Plagius and learning how to create life and manipulating midichlorians and how his pupil (assume Palpatine) killed once he learned the knowledge. It`s put Anakins conception in a different light. Perhaps he was just a freak of nature but perhaps Palpatine, contrived the whole situation himself.

The more I think about the whole film the better I like it.

The Bodines - Played on CD. . .

Hi, does anyone have this/seen it/know anyone selling it. . .I`ve searched for this since my vinyl copy gave up about 4 years ago.

Really in the mood to hear this again, so for the sake of my sanity can anyone help?

By the way anyone else like them

RE: Can A Catholic Be the Prime Minster?

He`s not a catholic yet. His wife obviously is. there was talk late last year he was thinking of converting but as far as I`m aware thats never happened.

For those who say you can be is there a site to back it up? I thought there was nothing to stop you but the sites are full of the monarchy stuff skant little on the prime minster side.

Ta

Can A Catholic Be the Prime Minster?

Bar room argument (one too many shandies I think). . .

We all agreed the constitution barred a member of the royal family marrying a catholic and that a catholic can never ascend to the throne however is there anything in the constitution that prohibits a catholic becoming prime minister?

Anybody know the definite answer and have a web link would be most appreciated? There`s a few pints resting on this one

P.S. an excellent reason for not drinking during the week!!!

RE: Index to close 126 stores

Am I the only one that thinks there`s a question of taste. . .as it`s announced a good many people are about to be made redundant, the first sign of action on here is a post trying to pick the carcass for bargains.

C`est la vie I guess.

RE: Film Soundtrack Albums

My humble contribution. . .

Ennio Morricone - The Good, Bad, Ugly (including the majestic aforementioned Ecstacy Of Gold) Once Upon A TIme In The West (also Once Upon A Time In America) plus numerous others by the same composer.

John Barry et al - Midnight Cowboy

Jack Nitzsche - One Flew Over The Cukoo`s Nest

Elmer bernstein - The Man With the Golden Arm, The Magnificent Seven

Soundtrack music is a real rich seam to mine. . .just get in about it!!

RE: Alone again, naturally...

I could get all serious and try and offer sympathy (you dont need it, trust me)

A good drink and social never goes amiss so I`d def be down the pub with the mate, however only thing I find that really works. . .slap in some "hard core" and take the edge off the proceedings meantime.

All the best

RE: The Pope has died

Quote:
As for PJP`s funeral, a comment in a letter to the paper yesterday summed it up for me: "What would the carpenter from Nazareth have made of the ceremony?"

Sorry, I would have expected better from a skeptic, who? Your not telling me the total woodworking exports from Nazareth is 1 (one) carpenter. . .or maybe you are?

If anything, these events only serve to show one thing - how quick people/groups are to stand on the orange crate for their 5 minutes in the sun, promoting the right way/real deal/secret history/blah. blah, blah.

Roll on 2032, if history repeats itself or should that be May 2005?

RE: The Pope has died

Why would you expect anything less. I guess I have what you would call a disgraceful attitude to HIV/AIDS. I made a life decision nearly 10 years ago based on a lot of factors, to be honest with no real thought regards AIDS to abstain from any penetrative sex. Thats my choice. It`s not for everyone but hey as they say if you cant stand the heat. . .

Your totally missing the point of your argument. Like it or not if you are a catholic the point is infalliable in areas of doctrine (many moons ago I was brought up a catholic) Bascially he sets the rules and calls the shots. Anyone who joins that organisation knows that, so why cry when you cut against the grain. S***, I was sacked from my first job for similar, was mightly p`d off at the time, but with hindsight what did I expect.

Given absolutely nothing is black and white (and without getting into matters beyond this forum) I`ve no doubt without high mortality in various parts of the world, hunger would be a bigger issue. In fact taken a step further, higher mortality would be a real benefit to our current `pensions crisis`. People may not like the logic, in fact some may say it`s cold and heartless but it isn`t without merit.

Point is (and I`m sure this pope or any other pope will disagree) not everyone is meant to live, or for that point has to.

Perhaps had the original John Paul not been murdered you may have had the pope you needed.

RE: The Pope has died

I hardly ever post here but sometime it`s nice to feed on the bitter PC class.

Do I find it sad the pope has died. From my own selfish POV, definitely. These moments always remind me of my/our mortality. Do I feel the need to canonise the man, probably not but thats just me. I certainly dont feel the need to vilify the dead.

Porl, given HIV affects a far greater percentage of hetrosexual people than homosexual, stop being lazy and playing the gay card. it doesn`t float. Likewise, whats your problem, a group/religion/organisation doesn`t accept your lifestyle, WTF would you want to be a part of it? If you dont, WTF are you rabbiting on about, I`m sure there`s plenty of other organisations with a more worldly view, who`ll happily accpet you

S*** the British constitution is based on bigoted principles, so what, do all the catholics take to the streets and burn royal buildings. Of course not. I`m a keen golfer (I`m s*** mind) but I cant buy a drink in most clubs in the UK, becuase I dont have a cock. To be honest am I offended, nope just embarrassed for them to be so narrow minded. The drinks cheap but by and large the company is crap so far better off drinking elsewhere anyway. If it`s the numbers game your after, I bet ther golfers could match the gays man for man. What would that prove? Nothing. Pretty much like your diatribe.

And incidently having worked in East Africa in the early 90`s (4 years in Tanzania) there was a far bigger education issue than the catholic church`s fordbidding the use of condoms. a) the mortality rate was so grim families wanted more children b) like it or not, condoms were seen as the developed worlds way of denying the developing worlds pleasure (one of the few available pleasures in some parts. . .and financialy, at least free)

Still at least your not bitter, that would be a crime.

Incidently I should post more often, I dont now what I`m missing

RE: Best song Intro?

Cant believe it`s got this far and no-ones mentioned How Soon Is Now by The Smiths. . .an immense intro. . . IMO of course

RE: Films lost forever.

This was a subject I used to be quite interested in. t`s a lot more depressing than most people think. (i guess only depressing though if your interested in film)

It is estimated more than half of the 21,000 shorts and full-length features made on nitrate stock before 1950 are gone. And that`s forever, no chance of ever recovering any of them. Roughly three quarters of the films from the Silent Era, 1893-1930, have also been destroyed. And every color film made on Eastmancolor stock between 1950 and 1975 is in danger of fading away.

In a similar vein, the original negatives of the following films(which I guess are considered classics) no longer exist - How Green Was My Valley, The Ox-Bow Incident, Stagecoach, Dr. Strangelove, etc, etc, etc.
