1st drug query i think, girl knocks 1 second of the world record and 5 seconds of her own PB in the 400m swimming, and while that isnt out there i dont think the fact that she swam the last 50m faster than the man who won is staggering and suspect I think.

I think it`s a shame there is a lot of public questioning about her. Obviously a performance like that which is so much faster than her PB should get people behind the scenes rapidly checking her samples, but innocent till proven guilty?

Having said that, I did watch Rocky IV recently, which taught me that all you need to beat a drugs cheat is to train in the snow the lumberjack way.

Ex swimmer and (I think) world champ Adrian Moorhouse was on 5live earlier. Saying how at 17 he knocked 4 seconds off his pb at the worlds. He reckoned it is not unusual for someone that age to improve massively.

She has not come from nowhere like the Irish girl, De Bruin? She has come from number 1 in the world to number 1. She is the current world champ.

Its purely sour grapes by the American coach who should be booted out of the games.

I didnt have too much of a problem till I read that she swam the final 50m faster than the male winner....surely that cant be right ?

It depends on how fast the men`s last 50 was compared to other mens races. Is it the case that the men went out very fast for the first 350 and died in the last 50? Was their last 50 slower than the norm?

China has a huge pool (sorry) of people. Billions. Isn`t it just possible they have waded (sorry again) through the average. Cut through the excellent and found their exceptional? Their Phelps?

absolutely possible and as I said if it wasnt for that stat I wouldnt have blinked and eye...just seems very very unusual for me that in any physical sport that women would be faster, stronger etc etc than men...and thats not me being sexist honest :)

Without seeing the last 50m times for fast men`s races the stat means nothing. Was the men`s race a fast last 50? I don`t know, but I doubt it.

My guess is her very fast last 50 would still be slower than a very good men`s time.

Having now read the article you linked it points to what I was saying.

1: She swam the 400m 23 seconds slower than Lochte`s time.

2: Other male competitors in that race swam the last 50m faster than she did.

The only conclusion can be that Lochte went out fast but pulled up in the final 50m. Where as Shiwen powered through the last 50.

I see the US Olympic Committee are distancing themselves from his comments.

I don`t know the circumstances surrounding this case, but if someone is on Human Growth Hormone, you have to catch them within 24 hours of injecting it, or its undetectable from what`s naturally-occurring in the body.

HGH doping goes back to at least the 1980s, and the above is the best test anyone has despite 30 years of research, so goodness knows who`s been getting away with what all this time.
