PFA Player`s Player of the year awards nominations

Ludicrous.

Voting finished about 3weeks ago, but proves footballers are f***ing idiots if this is what they`ve collectively voted..

Quote:
Manchester United players dominate the nominees to be crowned PFA Players` Player of the Year, with five of the six contenders hailing from the current Premier League leaders.

Edwin van der Sar, Nemanja Vidic, Rio Ferdinand, Ryan Giggs and last year`s winner Cristiano Ronaldo are in the hunt for the prize, with Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard representing the rest of the Premier League.

United also provide two of the candidates for the PFA Young Player of the Year honour in Jonny Evans and Rafael da Silva, with Aston Villa duo Gabriel Agbonlahor and Ashley Young, Manchester City midfielder Stephen Ireland and Tottenham winger Aaron Lennon the competition

Ireland should be in player of the year ones. Absolute jokers.

Ronaldo....again....after the season he`s had......
Unbelievable.
Glitz and glamour.
Lampard`s scored something like 17 goals this season.
Not even mentioned.
F*** me.

i think they discussed the pfa voting on talksport a while back. an ex player said that, back in the day, they handed out the voting forms and no-one cared. they may have filled the spares in themselves.

i thought the voting was december to december - maybe that explains ronaldo.

da silva? has he even played that much. i guess the young players one will go to ashley young or ireland.

surely the likes of hangeland or danny murphy should be in the main list?

Ronaldo is still the joint top goalscorer in the league. Think he`s actually scored more goals than Lampard in all competitions also and in less games.

All around playwise this season Lampard deserves to be ahead though.

Although I usually complain about keepers not being nominated as Friedel, Given and James should have been contenders in recent years, the inclusion of Van Der Saar is ludicrous.

Also Rio Ferdinand has been injured for a lot of the Premier League season.

The main problem that causes this to happen I`d assume is the fact that each player gets to pick 2 players. They`ll pick their best player be it Gerrard, Lampard etc and then the second vote will have gone to a Man Utd defender or Van Der Saar due to the record that was ongoing at the time of voting. (Plus I`d guess Keepers and Defenders throughout the leagues would have massive preference on voting for defensive players as they are often massively overlooked).

The young player awards actually look reasonably accurate though, as there is no one shouting out at me at the moment who`s been missed (but there probably is).

Ireland should be in the Players Award aswell though.

I read an article recently that said voting finishes in March sometime, so don`t know if it`s March to March for consideration (makes sense I suppose as otherwise players that do well for the last 3months of the season would never have that time considered).

Da Silva played 20games all competitions before injury according to Wikipedia. For a young player it`s probably just about enough to be considered, although someone who`d played more games should have an edge because of that. Can`t really think of who`s missed out for him to be there though.

I think Ronaldo has really underperformed this season. Would be criminal if he won anything.

That Jonny Evans always strikes me as ropey at best and inept more often than not.
But there you go.
Fair do`s with the rest of the nominees in the young players awards.

Can someone explain to me how the best striker in the world isnt on the list at least, though i guess his form has been current and he did struggle a bit earlier on in the season after winning the european championship.

If its for this season then Ronaldo certainly shouldnt be on the list esecially if Torres isnt. There should in my opinion be a special award for Giggs as to be at the level he is this year after the longevity of his career is simply immense.

Vidic would have been a contender if Torres hadnt destroyed his confidence and he wasnt a shadow of his earlier form this season. Id argue that Rio is only as good as the players around him and this has been proven with recent performances. VDS.........whatever, that record was more about the back four than him.

For me its between Gerrard and Giggs and Stevie G gets my vote, that said Ronaldo will probably win it cause players are for the most part idiots.

As for the young player Young is a shout but i would argue that Evans is too, although he too has been found wanting in recent weeks. Ireland has been consistant and id even argue that Lennon is worthy of a punt as when Spurs are good he normally is part of the reason why

A good shout, i imagine in years to come once he hangs up the boots the accolades will be granted

I dont think there is an argument there. He improved immensely at United once Vidic arrived, before that and now I think he is not as good as people think / say
(note that isnt me saying he is utter tosh)

i think you could argue its more to do with all 10 in front of him not just the back 4 - again though I;m with you.
I think reina has probably earned Pool more points than VDS has earned United this yr

For me i;d have thoughts votes should have gone to (in no particular order) Vidic, Gerrard, i can imagine i;d have had no real arguments if a player from Everton (cahill, fellani maybe) or Fulham or Villa (Barry, Young, Agbonlahor) had got in there also as the teams have all performed well this season and that doesnt happen if you dont have some players playing well
Wigan also must have some people who have played their nuts off or they wouldnt be up in 7th (ish)

The thing to remember is that, as will undoubtedly be the case with manager of the year, the gongs go to where the trophies have been won.
It doesnt matter that someone has probably done as good a job or a better job on less funds, with smaller squads or with less perceived quality the silverware seems to attract the honours

I will be shocked if Steve Bruce or David Moyes get the MOTY award but IMO one of the two of them should!!
