Blockbuster.co.uk - where are the new releases?

paolaspierre (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Tuesday, 21st March 2006, 16:28

I`ve been with Blockbuster`s Unlimited service for about 2 years, and generally I`ve been quite happy apart from the odd hiccup here and there.

But lately I just don`t receive ANY new releases at all. They actually seem to send me whatever is at the bottom of my list. I`ve just rung them - once again - and they say that if someone else has had a new release on their list for longer, they would get it first.

Is anyone having similar problems?

I`m trying to get hold of BB`s MD`s email address, but several searches for Alistair McCrow have so far produced no results. I might have to write him a proper letter!

Any suggestions or help would be welcome.

Thanks HGV, at least I`m not alone!!! I was having a relatively good spell until literally, just like you, the last month I`ve been receiving whatever the cat dragged in from the back door!!!

I am wondering if they are having some sort of unusual high demand, perhaps after an advertising campaign or something, or if they simply haven`t got enough of the new releases.

Anyone else? Any other horror stories?

Been with them for about 18 months now and been pretty pleased with the service. Haqve about 65 films in my list at the mo and for the past month been getting the drivel on the bottom of the list :( .
If this goes on for much longer thats it I`m off!

There was a code going around some forums for a two month free trial recently - I know because I took advantage, having never used Blockbuster before. The service I have been receiving has been very good - two new releases last week and two more the week before. I think it`s reasonably clear where their priorities lie.

Sadly, by doing this they are shooting themselves in the foot. I don`t expect the best titles on a free trial - I expect companies to treat their paying customers better. I was seriously considering moving my ScreenSelect service to Blockbuster at the end of the trial, but now I`m not so sure.

Incidentally, if it is mostly new releases you are after, I have to say from personal experience that you cannot beat the service from Amazon, especially if you time it so that your discs are returned on a release date. Sure, it is only a fixed number of rentals per month, but my strategy is normally to pay £12.49 a month for a 2 disc screen select service and £9.99 for Amazon. I normally save between £5 and £10 on purchases at Amazon with the 10% off, so on average I am not paying much different to the £15 I`d be paying with a 3 disc service at Screen Select.

Keep switching - 2 years is too long with the same company. All these online DVD rental companies are the same, they treat new customers as top priority - the longer you stay with them the worse they treat you in my experience!

I`ve just moved to Sainsburys - I got a mail Friday to say they`re sending me Flightplan and Transporter 2. They`re not even out until Monday, but they obviously want to impress me as a new customer :D

I bet all the old customers won`t see them disks for months!

That`s IT - another DVD from the bottom of my list has been sent!!!! >:(

It`s now a case of WHICH alternative to pursue - I`m going to do my research and then abandon BB, at least for a few months....

Just an update after getting no replies to my three emails,I rang them on Sunday when I had no discs on rental and none waiting to be sent out I was told I may have to many series on a first to last basis in my list, and to remove some or take them in any order,Nothing had been sent by this morning so I rang again, the outcome was take more out of my list when I said I had done this I was told to ADD more to my list,I said this was contradictory advice and what was the real problems.I was told they now have a new system in place that monitors how many dvd`s you get a month and If you have had a lot they will not send you discs so other customers can have some?(I had 10 in the Last Month) so I must have reached my limit!!!!Time to cancel I think.(before next payment)
