Anyone use online DVD Rental service??

thebuilder (Harmless) posted this on Monday, 20th December 2004, 17:00

I was looking around for a good online rental service. Anyone got any suggestions or thoughts on this?

It looks like Tesco are pretty good online rental services. Looks a pretty good service from under £8 a month. Gets you:

unlimited dvd rentals

delivery

no late fees

impressive stock
Would appreciate advice and thoughts on this as I tend to stay in a lot over the first few months of the new year - and can think of nothing better than ordering online as my nearest rental place is miles away.

Cheers.

Get a free trial of a DVD rental first. All the major companies will give you two, four or six week trials of their unlimited, three disc at a time service. I`ve tried Screenselect, Lovefilm and Webflix, and Lovefilm are the best. Don`t think I`d bother with a `one disc at a time` deal, cos the turnaround time at this time of year is a bit rubbish. At least if you can get three at a time you have something to occupy you till the next ones arrive!!

I am currently in dispute with Lovefilm.com.

Returned all discs after free trial was canceled but still being billed. >:(

Advice ? Stay well clear of the above. Use, blockbuster, screenselect.

Lovefilm owned by WH Smith.

I love Lovefilm at the mo`, because I recommended a couple of friends so I don`t owe them a bean until the middle of February :D

Avoid Blockbuster , or at least ditch them after the trial (I did) - not very good at getting top titles out to you.

I`m still with LoveFilm - they seem to have improved since their time as DVDs on Tap. I`m also on a month`s trail with Movie Choices (Choices) but was alarmed to note that they are merging with LoveFilm some time soon, so I`d get a trial in with them pretty quick if I were you ;)

I`m in the same position (living miles away from DVD shop).....and have signed up for a free trial with Tesco (on the £7.97 1 at a time deal).

Signed up Monday (28/2) and due to receive 1st DVD on Friday (4/3). The site looks great, but I`m interested to find out the turnaround time and work out how many deliveries you would get in a month.

Getting 3 CD`s at a time would make no difference in the waiting time would it? Don`t you have to send all 3 back at once (or can you do it 1 by 1 and keep it flowing nicely that way).

Cheers,

I`m curious about some of these packages. What happens if you choose either a 2 disc film or a 6 disc TV series? Does this count as one choice or do you get sent the discs individually?

Go that way, really fast. If something gets in your way, turn...

And those who dance will spin and turn,
And those who wait will wait no more,
And those who talk will hear the words,
And those who see will fade and die,
And those who laugh will surely fall,
And those who know will always feel their backs against the thin wall...

I`ve got a few of those on my list - they are sent one at a time (and supposedly in sequential order).

So if you`re like me and subscribe to the one at a time deal - you won`t get part II until you send the first one back.

Probably take me over a month to see the `Band of Brothers` 5-part epic!!

No , you don`t send all 3 back at once. Each DVD is sent out and returned individually , so you can keep the flow going.

Just to add my opinion to the debate , I really think that LOVEFILM should be called
Love(`em or hate `em)Film as many people say they work just fine and just as many , it seems , have had a bad experience. I was with them for about 2 years and for the most part they were great , sending out many of the new releases promptly and good turnaround , with the occasional postal blip. I had a few DVDs go missing (in both directions) and apart from having to wait 5 working days for them to be officially `lost` , there was no problem. I only cancelled as a change in my circumstances meant that I didn`t have the time to watch that many DVDs , otherwise I would still be with them.

But for every good experience , it seems ......... :¦

So far tried Sceenselect, Lovefilm, Video Island and Blockbuster. Have to say they were all great, Screenselect probably had best selection of older and foreign movies, so when I run out of free trials I`ll probably end up back with them.
