Play.com....any good?

Andy_R (Elite) posted this on Friday, 13th December 2002, 22:51

Just ordered a DVD from Play.com and am wondering if they are any quick in delivering? I was half expecting an e-mail back from them with confirmation that the order was succesful but havent got anything yet! Is this normal?

Have a look on the Retailer Reviews forum. There`s a couple of hot threads about them at the moment. I`m hanging fire from ordering anything else off them for now till it looks like they`ve sorted themselves out.

Mark.

Although Play, and other retailers, have been slagged off from time to time, you must remember that due to forums like these they get more and more business, meaning from time to time the service might suffer slightly due to sheer volume.

However, due to Play`s extensive choice; great prices (£14.99 for a regular disc, around £17 for a 2-disc, and cheap boxsets); and free delivery, they remain my premier choice.

They normally take about 3-4 days to deliver from time of order, and no, you never get an e-mail from them to confirm your order. Instead, use the `My Account` link on the site, and there are various stages your order goes through.

Being stung by customs is very rare (I have never been, although some others have), and I have had only one problem with them from my 12 months of constant ordering - they once sent me a "Friends" disc with the wrong disc in the box...but this was probably due to WB as they had sealed the DVD, so blame it on them I suppose. Anyway, their return policy is good, and they even refund your postage.

All in all - use them, but also alternate between others such as Amazon (they have a good vouchers scheme).

Well said Richard Booth - can`t really add anything to that except my order history now runs into 6 pages. Oh dear, how much have I spent......?

Agree here also, I have used Play since mid 1999 and only had a couple of problems which were promptly sorted. My order history runs to 23 pages not counting the ones pre Feb 2000 when the order history started.

Thanks for the info guys. Yeh I did find that the prices are somewhat cheap! I`ve been looking for a film called `Going off big time` which is basically a gangster film set in Liverpool and can only find it in the high street for £19.99. I went on play.com for the first time ever last night and saw it there for £8.99! Ooooh bargain!

They deliver in around three to five days (not including weekends). They don`t send an e-mail confirmation, but you can keep track of your order in your account page.
Their prices are low especially as they offer free postage on all items.
Another reason for shopping at Play.com is their selection of region 1 titles

Another thumbs up for play from me. I have been ordering for a couple of years now, have spent over £850 with them. Occasionally a little slow (dont expect next day delivery!) but really good prices. Lack of email updates is a little odd, you kinda expect that from online retailers, but to be honest it is not usually a problem, tho it would be nice to have a dispatch note for pre orders.

I`d recommend Play.com too.

I ordered 2 DVD`s on the Monday and received it on the Friday.

Can`t fault them for price or delivery, so far. Only sites/stores with "special offers" can beat them from time to time. Consistently I`d say they are the best around.
