BT Yahoo

Choagy (Elite) posted this on Thursday, 22nd March 2007, 21:49

FFS so much for 6 meg broadband. I am now receiving speeds more akin to dial up.
A 36 meg download from BT will take about an hour .
Windows XP SP2 download took ninety minutes, for 70 Meg.

Been like this for a few weeks now and guess what the "Experts" in Mumbai/Bangalore suggested.

Disable/uninstall both my Firewall and Anti-virus software.

Great advice eh folks.

Sorry but a change of provider looks imminent , any recommendations.

Anyone else getting the same scheitte rates from BT ?

Definitely something up there mate..
To be honest, I`ve nothing but good things to say about BT Broadband.
Phone picked up in seconds, helpful, knowledgeable and polite staff (in India).
My mum had a problem at the weekend and called them. They tried a few things and said they`d call back at 2:30 in the afternoon while they did the line tests (friends with other ISP`s said they couldn`t do all the tests and what they could could take upto a week).. :/
They called back at 2:30 on the dot and went through a few things. Got her back up and running quickly too. Not the cheapest around but, imho, certainly one of the best..

We will pay the price but we will not count the cost..

Orange asked me the same when I complained about my speed, think it is part of a script they have to work through. After the 3rd time of asking, I just said I`d tried it and it made no difference.

Ste :)

Glad to read that Yur Maw got good service.

I phannied about a wee bit and ended up changing then removing the micro-filters. Got a wee bit of an improvement but I am a bit concerned as I am sure the micro-filters are meant to be used at all times . Something to do with loss of connection/signal?? when the telephone rings.

Anywhoo, I will wait and see what happens when my good ladies sister phones.

Choagy,

I`ve been with Telewest, which is now Virgin for a good few years now and never had any problems whatsoever, I`d certainly recommend them. :)

I had 3 months of that with BT while they were trying to fix it. I even emailed the Chief Executive of BT (oecc[at]moc.tb) and his assistant was dealing with my case which never got sorted. I had engineers out who said the line was fine but the connection was probably being throttled by the ISP. I ended up leaving and getting 6 months refunded. I am now with Sky and have never looked back. BT in my opinion were absolutely useless and their call centre - well don`t get me started, how many times was I told to delete my temporary internet files.

It`s hard to recommend anyone though as most ISP`s have people who have problems. You should try and check out the forums on ThinkBroadband.com as there are forums about each ISP.

I`ve had no real problems with Orange except the slow speed, which I left for ages cos I didn`t want to ring them (thought I`d have to pay, but turned out to be free using my Livebox phone). I rang last week sometime, then went away for a few days. When I checked my connection this morning it was running at 3.3mb, which is the best it has ever been. :) I did have to go through the awful call centre script to get the first line test done, but after that found them very helpful.
