what email program do you use? I use Thunderbird, and the junk filter in that is pretty good at putting what it thinks is spam in the junk folder. Outlook Express probably does the same. web baed mail liek yahoo mail does it to.

I give it a quick look, select all and delete them, some do still end up in inbox.

but yeah, could be from anything she`s signed up, but I have email addresses which get spammed where I haven`t signed up for anything, programs guess at email addresses, so spam them assuming they exist.

Get Mailwasher. It runs in the System Tray. You can check your mail before you download it and a mere click away will delete it from a list. It also uses filters you can configure.
It does seem to be "seasonal" though as I am getting an extra lot lately.

I use Outlook and find the junk filter is pretty good, I was getting 10-20 per day but currently getting 150+, luckily only 2 or 3 a week manage to find their way past the filter.

All the best

Gerald.

I`m afraid it`s just the way of things.

At work, we have recently been rejecting in the region of 300,000 messages per day as SPAM. This number started ramping up over the summer, around August/September time. It has gone a little quieter now, but there`s still SPAM slipping through.

It`s happening all over the world, to anyone who runs mail servers. We are in a constant battle with SPAMmers. We change something to stop their SPAM, they change something to get it through again. It`s the new eternal struggle of good against evil.

one of the considerations when selecting an isp should be do they provide spam filtering and antivirus scanning of email. Both orange and virgin with whom i have email addresses provide that which filters out most of the spam though as i was getting 3000 mostly bounced spoofed address spam a day (death to those who bounce without checking for spoofing) there would still have been about 100 getting through on orange if i didn`t specify the full email address when logging in. Currently my spam load has dropped to about 500 per day in the junk folder accessible via the webmail interface

It is getting so bad that I am considering using challenge/response spam blocking. I am going to give Comodo Spam Desktop a try.

NTL do that, but I turned off the spam filter.

it was blocking spam, but also some mailing lists, mail shots from some shops etc, but you can get it to put in the subject [SPAM?] so I have a filter where all SPAM goes to a junk folder, then I have a quick check to make sure none has gone there by mistake. Not many get marked falsly.
