Web hosting/Domain name registration...

julianf (Elite) posted this on Tuesday, 23rd March 2004, 08:22

Hi, I want to register a domain name and was thinking of using easily.co.uk as I`ve used them once before and they can host the site too...

I want someone to host the website once I`ve built it using Dreamweaver so is there anyone else out there (geocities?) that can provide the domain registration, email addresses AND site hosting? The keyword is CHEAP, preferably free, but I`m new to this website-building and hosting stuff.

Thanks

julianf

Portland is a free host, but I think to actually buy the domain form them is very expensive, so just buy it on easily.co.uk or wherever you want and then change the nameservers.

(My domain points to my space from my ISP because a)I was a bit nervous about changing over to portland, but I did sign up with them. b)I gave up waiting for the DNS to update and c)My entire site is one page and about 300kb, doesn`t really matter where I host it!:))

These guys are meant to be good, i`ve never used them myself as i get `mates rates` from someone i know who runs his own hosting firm. They have been recommended by others though, and i am sure i have seen the name banded about on here before:http://www.123reg.co.uk/

You could do worse than me!

Very special rates for forum members, naturally. ;)

I design and host sites for national and international organisations and individuals from very small to multinational and government organisations. I do everything from registration to ongoing maintenance and am happy to `train` you to do it yourself as and when you want to. The packages come with full control panels accessed via the web, email, choice of windows or linux servers etc.

If you are interested email me: nitram_wehttam[at]moc.liamtoh and I`ll give you some more realistic rates.

And even if you don`t I`ll put a vote in for 123reg - I also use them for UK domain registrations. They are dirt cheap and the email and phone support is excellent.

I just bought a domain from www.simply.com it was £6.79 for 2 years (a co.uk address), I am not too sure if it is the cheapest but looked pretty reasonable to me. I am using Portland for web hosting (their free option) as i don`t expect too much traffic.

I bought my domain from 123-Reg, and my hosting from PCS (http://www.pcs-net.com/services_hosting.htm). I only wanted to host a small forum, so their web presence account does me fine, and is £10 a year. I`ve only been with them about 10 days or so, but everything is fine so far, they have a forum for advice, and they answered a tech help enquiry fairly quickly considering I sent it to the sales address by mistake :D
