UHD Disc Player cleaning

Sue Brown (Elite Donator) posted this on Friday, 5th June 2020, 14:58

So how do I clean the Lazer. On my Sony UHD player? Just lately it seems to take ages to load a disc, and can either fail to load or only load the video or the audio instead of both. Firmware's up to date so I figure it needs cleaning, but how? I knew where I was with DVD, but never seen anything to clean a 4K player with.

Still alive and kicking. You can't get rid of me that easily!

More than three years old? Then the laser's dying. Especially if you're using it every day. Time to get it repaired with a new drive mechanism, or get a new player.

EDIT: Painful experience with two modern CD players, and 4 Blu-ray players has taught me that modern organic dye lasers have a life-span which isn't completely based on use (I suspect that the dye simply degrades with time). I have 25 year old devices with old solid state lasers which still work. But anything from this century, chances are it will be dead in three years.

Yep what he says above - hence why I always look for long warranties either John Lewis or Richer Sounds.
