I`ve got the RXV-620RDS and it`s brilliant - but if I was buying today I`d go for the Denon or Marantz SR5200

I`ve got the Denon AVR 1602 and it`s a great amp BUT there seems to be a bit of a problem with Dolby 5.1 sound on a couple of discs. It`s not really a problem with the machine, but how some discs are now being encoded (can`t remember the techy details). Have had problems with Pearl Harbour and Jurassic Park3 (the DTS is fine on this so it didn`t bother me). There are supposedly going to be some problems on some upcoming discs. Dolby are `aware of the problem`. I don`t want to put you off too much but it could tip the scales (I believe Onkyo have similar problems).

Oh, yes - I`d forgotten about that. OK, forget the Denon. :)

I have the Yam ax 620 (not with tuner) very happy with product, DTS in my opinion better than dolby, I run it with a pioneer dv535 and had no films that don`t play and no probs with sound. Amp has a good power output. Dolby 5 channel stereo is also very good for parties. You should be able to get it for about 300 ish now

Hope this is of help

Would have to agree with above post.

Bought my Yamaha ax-620 on Saturday and am impressed beyond my expectations. DTS is slightly better than DDigital and is good with standard music cd`s.

Buy this amp it will make you happy.

I have the 620`s predecessor, the curuelly only-out-for-nien-months-before-being-replaced DSPA5 and have to say it`s the mutt`s nutts.

However, if I was buying an amp today, I`d be looking to the Marantz SR5200 or Denon AVR2802, for the Dolby ProLogic 2 if nowt else.

Sadly the cheapest Yammy DPL2 amp will be about £800 come February/March time, and it may take it`s time to filter down to the £300/400 models.

Guess I`ll have to wait `til then.

In the meantime, you should be able to get a decent deal on the `620, so keep `em peeled.

Be warned of the Dolby Digital 5.1 EX problem on some discs (eg Pearl Harbour) which is confounding some Denon (and others) amps at the moment, however.

Hi,

I`ve just bought a Yamaha DSP-AX620 from http://www.hificorner.co.uk for £220, refurbished stock. Can`t comment on it as my living room is being re-decorated so the home cinema setup has been dismantled. Also ordered a Yamaha YST-SW320 sub £200 refurb stock again. Seemed like a good deal to me although I would like to hear some views on refubished items.

Darren
