What are the video options on this player e.g. does it have Pal50, Pal60 & Ntsc or just some of these?

Thanks for that. Removal of macrovision isn`t too much of a problem as my chipped Samsung can deal with that.

My son would like this player for his bedroom but as it`s a fairly old TV which can`t handle Ntsc, I wanted to check the video output options. We once tried a Limit from Richers Sounds which was very jumpy when playing R1 discs as it only had Pal50(jumpy) and Ntsc(no jumpiness but B&W).

Do you know what the Acoustic is like when playing R1 discs output as Pal?

Hi,

Im new to the digital home entertainment world so a few dumb questions i`m afraid.
I`ve just bought the same player, it seems to be fine haven`t tried mulit-region hack yet but will soon. I was wondering what the macro vision was that you were discussing? Is this important or more of a customisation option?

A quick search on this forum would answer this question, but basically it is a copy protection system that kicks in when you run a dvd`s signal through a VCR - the picture becomes unstable, etc, and basically unwatchable.
The ability to switch off macrovision is generally not needed - the only legitimate reason is if you have an old TV and have to run the signal through a VCR to get it to the TV, or if you have certain projectors, which object to macrovision.
The actual copying of dvds on to VCR (which macrovison is supposed to be there to prevent), is basically illegal (and they look rubbish anyway!).

Hi

Thanks for the info. Sorry i normally do search for faqs, slipped my mind. Thats fine about macrovision - I dont see the point in going from dvd to vhs, no projector and my tv accepts scart too. Its a cheap DVD player but seems to play well - i`ve heard of lip sync problems on higher end sonys.
