Lecson 900 Firmware Update

Trip Fontaine (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Tuesday, 27th November 2001, 13:47

This might be in the wrong forum as its a bit hardware and a bit software. I have recently encountered my first `problem` disc and was advised to pick up a copy of the latest firmware software update for my Lecson 900. However, I`m a bit worried that this might stop my player from being multi-region if I use it? Has anyone used it? Is this the case?

Sorry, I don`t know I decided not to bother with the update when it came out as I hadn`t found any problem disks.

What disk did you have problems with ?
Where did you get the Firmware update disk ?

I`ve got quite a big collection and never had a problem with any discs but then I got the Beastie Boys Anthology 2 Disc set, Region 0, and I have problems accessing some of the bonus features...i thought it might be a problem with the discs itself (I started a thread in the Software forum originally), but it occurs on Discs 1 and 2 in exactly the same area of the menus.

Somebody tipped me off that firmware updates were available from Debenhams, free of charge, these are aimed at getting rid of hassles with problem discs, but I don`t know I don`t know whether they will also disable the player from being multi-region aswell? Has any one used the firmware update?

The upgrade number that i posted is still multiregion. In fact i bought a rce disc and expected to have to set it region specific as it is set multiregion at the moment.Lo and behold booted up under multiregion with no switching of settings.
Dont know what are the problem discs are but there must be some otherwise they wouldnt upgrade the firmware.
When i got the disc from Debenhams the assistant assured me the machine would still be multiregion as it was one of its big selling points.

If you want to check your firmware version i just read the bumf on the update cd i got.Open the players tray and using the handset press
ZOOM
UP CURSOR
LEFT CURSOR
DOWN CURSOR
RIGHT CURSOR
this should bring up the firmware number.
Mine is now ZR0720-84
I would assume if youve a lower number than this youve got an older version.
NOTE
IF YOU CHECK THE VERSION YOUR MACHINE WILL BE RESET TO REGION 2 AND YOU HAVE TO DO THE HACK AGAIN AND ALSO IT RESETS THE SETUP TO DEFAULT SO YOU HAVE TO GO INTO SETUP AND CHECK THE SETTINGS ARE CORRECT E.G. SOUND AND SCREEN OPTIONS.

Ravi. Seems to me that you are the main man to my query.
I also have a Lecson DVD machine and I read with great interest about the firmware update. What does this update achieve? The Lecson, for example, will not zoom more than once with R2. But will zoom x3 with R1 or R4 films. Will this update improve on the capabilities of this machine or just deals with problematic discs?
