Hi, don`t know if this is the correct forum, but is 4.7GB the biggest capacity you can get in DVD-R etc?

Just to clarify things here. The largest capacity of single layer DVDs is 4.7GB as you asked. It is now possible to get dual layer DVD-R and double layer DVD+R discs with a capacity of 8.5GB, but make sure the burner you intend to use them in is compatible with that format.

You cannot buy dual/double layer rewriteable discs as yet.

The cost of these higher capacity discs should be borne in mind - a typical DVD+/-R on a spool can now cost around 15-30p, whereas the cheapest double layer DVD+R I have found to date costs £1.50, and they just shoot upwards from there.

HD-DVD and Blu-Ray are on their way with capacities of 45-60GB per disc, but they are expected to cost at least £30 per disc (I`m not sure exactly how much) and these will require new equipment to burn/play back on again.
