Recommend me a multi-region DVD player available at the High Street

James Clews (Competent) posted this on Thursday, 22nd September 2005, 18:26

Ok so I know threads like this are probably a dime a dozen but I need help. I want a DVD player ASAP and went to Currys and Comet and looked at their numerous DVD players and hadnt a clue which ones were multi-region capable. I currently have a battered Wharfedale 750 which no longer plays audio CD`s and has never played my *whisper* burned DVD`s.

Help!!!

Best thing to do is pop down to Curry`s and Comet and make a note of their el cheapo players with brand and model number.
Check out the excellent list of remote hacks on this site, then go and buy whichever one you prefer.
You could always buy a quality brand like Pioneer or Panasonic. There is a website available that will send you a special remote to make it multiregion for about £25,but thats probably all you want to pay for the player, but its up to you and you get what you pay for

I`d always go for a decent model (I``m a Pioneer devotee myself) over a cheaper `supermarket` brand, but if you only want to spend a few quid then most of the £25/£30 players will be better than your old Wharfedale. They were well overrated at the time.

Well I bought a Phillips one for £39.99 and its now multi-region although I can still hear Sky Sports when I watch a DVD...scart lead not in properly probably?

Anyway thanks for all your help fellas!

As far as I am aware, there`s not a Philips player/hack out there that will play RCE discs.Try a R1 Columbia title and see if it works

It`d have to be an older title, cause Sony don`t really bother with RCE now.

Not sure if I have a Columbia DVD. I`ve tried Garden State and Lost In Translation and they work fine.

Its not a great player but it does the job.
