Why different sized screens on 42

Colin Mac (Competent) posted this on Saturday, 17th January 2004, 22:31

Been compairing 42" plasmas TV`s at my local retailer recently, and I was wondering why screen shapes are different per make.

Some 42" plasma TV`s screens are higher and less wide than other makes ?

Example
42" JVC ....squarer.
42" Samsung.....longer and less height.

Is there some standards to all this. Completely puzzled !

Depends on how they manufacture their screens, and this has been the case on CRT TV`s too for years.

What you want to look at for more clarity on it, is the "Visible Screen Size", usually quoted in cm.
