RE: Anyone watching Battlestar Glalactic(Remake) tonight on Sky Movies??

Bit of a sickener with Sky showing this in the Movie channel when a lot of us do not pay for movies as Standard package Sky is dear enough.

Though it will most likely be shown on the Si-Fi channel shortly :D

I heard Starbuck is a WOMAN this time !

RE: Ever bought a DVD for one scene?

Not that I am any great fan of the new trilogy of Star wars compaired to the fantastic classic versions (sorry Chewie).

But I did buy the Phantom menace only because of the final lazer sword fight scene, great to see the double lazer sword in action.

With the choir building up and the lazers flashing everywhere, zap zap zapping (like the sound effects), this is my favorite bit of the film.

RE: Plasma or LCD

Your right when you say most of Joe Public is holding off buying a 42" Plasma or above due to cost. I personally will wait till the price is right.

Its the old problem of consumer demand. There are not enough sold yet as we are waiting for costs to half each year, till it reaches a more reasonable figure.

It is after all, all about PROFIT, especially in ripoff Britain.

I think they wont take off until the lower end of the market gets down to under a grand.

It was the same with the first DVD players, slow take off and now as the average is £100 or less, there is a big consumer market.

RE: Recommend me some Anime please

Yeh, `Laputa` and `Ghost in the shell` are the best ones, worth having.

Laputa for the wonderfull backgrounds and Ghost for the story.

RE: Help Please for JPEG Viewing

It may also be a case that you can only use JPEGs up to cetain resolution size, like 800 by 600 or 640 by 480, check the manual.

I forget `The people that time forgot`

Just looking at the film on the front page of the site today.

There were a lot of these type of films which starred Doug McClure as the reluctant hero.

Is this the film that had people from different times and ages, walking across a graveyard of ships wearing helium balloons, with `big nasher and tenticle weaving seaweed` or is this a different film entirely ? can you name it, as I do seem to remember this one?

These `B` movie monster films seem to all blend together.

Why different sized screens on 42

Been compairing 42" plasmas TV`s at my local retailer recently, and I was wondering why screen shapes are different per make.

Some 42" plasma TV`s screens are higher and less wide than other makes ?

Example
42" JVC ....squarer.
42" Samsung.....longer and less height.

Is there some standards to all this. Completely puzzled !

RE: Shops......a new trend where they think they`re doing us a favour?

I got caught out with the Virgin Megastore New Year sale on Film Video`s.

I bought three SALE videos that totalled up to £10.95.

When I got home I peeled off the stickers and underneath was more stickers stating:-
` 3 videos for £10 ` :/

DONE YET AGAIN ! ....So much for the sales.

RE: The infinate dog paradox

Nice one! Did I ever tell you about Schrodingers cat?

RE: XMAS con on Ps2 games

I was right, `Beyond good and evil -PS2 ` pre Xmas price £40, after Xmas sale £20 from GAME, What a total rippoff if they can half the price and still make profit. Makes you wonder what games really cost

Well, at least I got the above game yesterday for the sale price :)

RE: THE RETURN OF THE KING OPINIONS!!!!!!!

Well, now that I have been to see the film for the second time, I realise what a masterpiece this film is.

I would recommend to anyone to see it for the second time just to catch all the bits you missed the first time, due to the pace of the action.

I am looking foward to the extended version which it seems from above messages, will be five hours long.

RE: Phone Cameras and Pedophiles ....

This subject creates a very worrying side effect on joe public.

For example a small boy was crying alone in our local mall recently and no-one including myself went foward to ask if he was lost, in case they would be accused of anything.

Eventually someone must have alerted security. It is sad days when you have to think before you act.

RE: THE RETURN OF THE KING OPINIONS!!!!!!!

Well I enjoyed the Return of the king. The music, battles and action was all superb.

I would agree that the film was a bit down this time on characterisation compaired to the previous two fims, but there was only limited time available to tell the story. (Roll on the Extended version, where it can and will fill in the gaps),

There were many great scenes in the film, but for me the scene where the Riders of Gondor who were going to their doom, while the hobbit (Billy Boyd) sang, was just totally brilliant.

I also agree that the end did drag on a bit and could have ended nicely where eveyone bowed to the hobbits, but I suppose it was necessary to tell as much as possible even in this rather dissjointed way. (Again I hope the extended version will likely solve this).

Overall it was yet another brillant film by Jackson, he and the cast made a great job of this classic. He should get the Oscar this time.

RE: So what did everyone get then?

Yet another duff prezzie.

I got a set of mini folding binoculars but the eyepieces are far too small and I have to squint through them to see anything.

So the delemma is do I own up to my relative and ask for the store reciept for an exchange or do I hand them into Oxfam latter and just say they got lost :(

RE: Got a job interview, what should I do with my current job?

I would totally agree with Mark, Do not tell anyone about the interview untill you have the new job in writting, then you can hand in your notice.

You can go for the interview during an assumed dental visit.

RE: Favourite game 2003

PS2 Favorite of the year.....Price of Persia is an excellent game. graphics and play.

PS2 Biggest dissapointment of the year.....Tomb raider 6, was a total dissaster due to the lack of control, like a puppet with sausage legs in slow motion.

RE: The infinate dog paradox

"Infinite means a never ending"

Now infinity could mean going `on to` infinity or `going round in circles` like a Mobious strip.

This is why mathematicians are so ingenous, they can come up with the definate or the abstract to try and solve a solution, Only mathematians could come up with the square root of minus one, which is an imaginary number, yet it used to solve mathematical and engineering solutions.

Though Mathmaticians are Brilliant in their field, it comes down to the engineer to change the thoretical into the pratical. So maybe its an Engineer that may solve the infinate dog paradox one day.

When I first went to University I was first taught a simple story giving the definintion between a Mathematicain and an Engineer.

There is a beutifull naked Blonde at one side of the room and a Mathematican and an Engineer at the other, the blonde say "the first man to me will be my boyfriend, but you may only take one large step and ever other must be half the distance of the next step"

The Mathematician does not even try as he has computed the imposibillity of the task.

The Engineer moves one large step fowards, then every other smaller step he says `getting closer`.

Here endeth the lesson on the Human brain verses a paradox. There is always a solution, even if it is only 95% solved. Merry Xmas.

RE: Recommend an internet provider ?

Thanks guys & thanks for that link Fitz, I will try Tesco.net

Recommend an internet provider ?

I have been with AOL for two years and am going to leave them soon, so I am a bit rusty on the lattest facts of a new internet provider. Can you recommend your own?

I am looking for a standard dial-up modem connection, unlimited use, paid monthly.

Not the likes of NTL where you need a smartbox.

Any good deals on at the moment? reasonable monthly rate to beat AOL ? reliable connection ?

Thanks in advance

RE: Has Christmas Lost its sparkle?

The only thing that makes `Christmas Lost its sparkle` for me is when I am forced due to commitments to come in to the office during the week between Xmas and New Year.
Always happens.

I have used the `My grannie has just died, so I can`t come in` excuse, five times so far, so I think they are getting wize to it.

Must think up something else this year, I wonder what?

RE: Who goes to the Cinema during working hours

Glad to see I am not the only `secret afternoon cinema goer` :D

All work and no play, etc..........

RE: Latest Phone Menace

The best laugh ones now are the call centres from 3rd world countries, where you cant understand a word `wot their saying or for that matter selling`

Who goes to the Cinema during working hours

I do and I get paid for it, mind you I am my own boss.

CONFESSIONS OF A SECRET AFTERNOON CINEMA WATCHER

I love the cinema when its nearly empty so you get the big screen clear of bobbing heads and smelling hotdogs.

So own up do you have this dark secret compulsion as well?

Do you sneak in when you should be returning from a meeting back to the office? I used to when I worked for other companies.

Do you sneak out with your hat firmly and sunglasses on to hide your face? I did.

Have you come face to face with the TV cameras asking how you enjoyed the film?
I did, but I zoomed past them at high speed without comment. Arrg! nearly got caught there!

Do you go out your way to find a cinema away from your work? I used to.

Did you feel guilty? I did`nt.

So there you are, its confession time, tell us your juicy story and I promise not to tell YOUR boss :p

RE: Return of the King

I like to go during working hours and get the BIG cinema to myself plus maybe a few bods dotted around. :)

This way you dont get hemmed in by the heaving multitude and you get to see the big screen very clearly plus you feel great getting paid while watching :D

Hope the boss does not find out, he cant, why? cause Im the boss, he he

RE: PS2 auto switching on scart

"I got a reply saying if I use a proper ps2 scart and not the crappy phono to scart connection then it will then work"

All a scart cable will do (in theory)is give you a slightly better display as you do not have the phono to scart connector in line.

Cant see any reason for buying it.

What i did was:-

Split my signals up by connecting my PS2 through an old video recorder and then to the telly. (if you dont have a video rec you can now pick them up with builtin scart socket for a cheap £30)

You set the video manually to AV channel and you get PS2 .

If your telly has two scarts sockets or a scart and co-axial This leaves your TV for other autodetect switching operation like your DVD & SKY.

XMAS con on Ps2 games

Went to buy some lattest release games as presents and could not believe that every shop had these games at £39.99

Its a total rippoff and just to rub it in, the games will drop £10 in the sales the day after Xmas, what good is that?

Now call me Scrouge if you want but I ain`t paying that, £40 minus a penny is a lot of money froms ones pocket and a whopping BIG profit to the high street shops.

I found some internet sites that were selling the games I wanted for £29.99 post free, so I got them sent by post and a `wet rasperry` to these money grabbin games shops.

RE: Harry Potter:Prisoner Of Azkaban New Teaser Trailer

Right, Thats not going to stop me !!

Think I will go out have a few drinks with friends and then we will video tape our own version of the film, using homemade dementor capes and teeth plus the obligatory invisable horses :) then sit down and watch the show, over more drinks.

RE: Harry Potter:Prisoner Of Azkaban New Teaser Trailer

I am wilder than a dementors rage.

Harry potter 3 film due for release in JUNE next year, JUNE when its already in the can and shown in the US of A when?, likely long before us in the UK.

Well I am away down my local Sunday market this weekend and get a PIRATE version as I cannot wait this long to see it.

RE: Just seen the Harry Potter 3 Trailer

Well out of the five books so far, the third book is by far the best, so this is the movie to see.

I am looking foward to seing how the Dementors are protrayed, as they seem a carboncopy of the Dark riders in Lord of the rings.

Watch out for a Dementors Kiss !!!

RE: Has anyone on here tried the Atkins diet?

You have to be very carefull of this diet as it has a lot of meat and reduced carbohydrates, so if you dont watch out you can get very CONSIPATED.

It does remove the fat as the body burns it, but there can be the above and other side effects, so watch out.

I gave it up as I was totally ill with it. No use being thin if you feel as though you have died and come out the other side:(
