Connection Problems NO SOUND

spidey7 (Harmless) posted this on Friday, 20th September 2002, 13:50

Somebody please tell me how to set up my system properly!

I have a grundig 28" Arganto integrated digital TV with 2 scarts on the back.
Recently bought an LG 3525 (DTS 5.1) home cinema system. (incidently there is no info on any hack for this escpecially the VCD) This has the 3 plugs on the rear and no scart or s cable.

The sound is great when playing dvd`s but there is no sound coming out of the any of the home cinema speakers when the tv is on? I`ve tried talking to Dixons where I bought it but they looked and sound extremely vague? Needless to say it was a wasted conversation?

Any info would be appreciated.

I`ve got a Dolby DTS/5.1 amp. DVDs sound comes out fine, but VCDs don`t until I found the below:

Answer:
Check if there is a sound input selection on your DVD system. On my amp I have to switch the sound input to ANALOG when watching VCDs and OPTICAL (or COAX if connected) for DVDs.

Hope this helps.

Spidey, are you saying you would like to hear normal TV over the home cinema, but can`t? What are the three plugs on the back of the LG labelled as?

It sounds like you need to run the sound from the tvs audio outs to the inputs on the LG unit. One of the connections should be labelled either AUX or video in. Just run a stereo interconnect lead from the tv`s audio out to these inputs on the LG, select the source, (eg AUX or Video in), and you should have sound through the LG speakers. You may have to select the correct sound mode as analogue signals are not dedected as Pro Logic, so you may need to cycle through the LG`s sound options in order to get Pro Logic sound.

Dave, i think the 3 outputs are Yellow(Composite), white(left channel), and red, (right channel). I think, but then again i`m drunk...
