Tesco Petrol Stations, anyone have the complaints number?

Jimbo :oÞ (Elite Donator) posted this on Tuesday, 17th November 2009, 18:42

Long story that I don`t want to go into at the moment but had a rather unpleasant experience in a local Tesco filling station this morning that I want to take up with their customer services.
Problem is, thought I could do it in email, seems there is no email address on the website to contact!
Add to that there is a number for everything but petrol complaints, so before I ring one of those and end up hot under the collar trying to find the right number.... has anyone had cause to deal with them before and got the number for same?

Cheers :)

To understand, here`s what happened:
I buy some stuff in one Tesco and get the 5p a litre voucher.
Car is running very low on fuel so I decide it`s time to use voucher and take along my jerry can that I regularly keep filled for emergency use (as you can guess, I`d used it!)

So there I was, fill the tank and the jerry can. Total fill up of 83 litres (musta been on fumes when I got there!) and take two extra of the little blue gloves they have on the forecourt... at this point there`s a woman in a Tesco jacket walks around me and checks the gloves in the holder, I said "not many left in there" just out of politeness.

Into the store and wait in the queue, she walks in, walks to a till and I`m next. Hand over the voucher, "pump 2 please and can I have a VAT receipt"
She then starts with the oohs and aahs and "don`t know how this works" stuff.
Basically she was trying to say that the fact I filled the jerry can made it break their terms and conditions which it didnt.
Terms are 1 car to be filled up, max 100 litres, no mixed grades.
Queue started to build up as she kept asking someone in an office behind her, kept saying I had filled jerry canS which I pointed out was singular and did this 3 times.
As I was now getting a bit embarressed as to people thinking I was at it and just said "gimme the voucher back and put it through at full, but I will be complaining about it" to a very blank expression.

Turns out the receipt has a guy`s operator code on it so looks like she did everything deliberate, including the walking onto the till to get me as a customer.

Had complete agreement in store that the cashier on the day was totally wrong.
Had the amount of a voucher (the 5p thing and a total of £4.15p!!??) refunded on the spot and told to use the voucher again.

Thing is, although you may not belive it, I`m not a complainer. I did say before I left that two more trips to the store to sort this out and fuel at a price that`s 4 or 5p a litre higher than more than one local station means I`ll probably not use the voucher and that the extra aggravation and embarressment (sp?) on the day is now only being valued at a fiver if I spend a further £110.

I`ve not got what I was actually entitled to on the day but I think I`m still gonna write out a letter and send it to their HO as it`s left a very bitter taste.
Thanks for the help though guys.

Id still write a letter as you said you didnt break T&C of the offer as I have one in my wallet.

I think she probs started out making sure you didnt have a whole tank in your boot and do a drive off as this is common practice now.

Im sure Tesco will give you some vouchers and an apology for your embaressment you deserve them.

Exactly what would she do to stop this happening?

Thats why they have CCTV

If you are going to write to them I suggest you get them to change the T&C to include filling of approved petrol cans

They have a shut off switch for the pumps, she could have been checking if the number plate look unusual and maybe looking in the boot area to see what Jimbo was doing.

Im sure she wasnt gonna wrestle him to the ground unless she works at a Manchester Tesco cos we have some big lasses here :D

Petrol Station attendants need to make sure you are using a proper fuel can and not any old plastic bottle etc.
I`ve had them shut the pump off on me before as they couldn`t see the fuel can so now I just hold it up first.
Doesn`t excuse the treatment once inside the shop though.

why take life so seriously..its not like you are going to make it out alive
