Florida and Space Shuttle Launch.

I`m going to Florida on the 8th May and there is a Shuttle Launce on 12th May. I can get tickets for the following:

This site is located just outside the Kennedy Space Center gates on State Road 405. Viewing of the space shuttle launch takes place outside in a field located directly behind the Astronaut Hall of Fame. From this viewing location, space shuttle Launch Pad 39A is located behind the Vehicle Assembly Building, so you won`t see it sitting on the launch pad,BUT,you will have a direct view of the space shuttle immediately after it has cleared this building following initial lift-off.

Has anyone been there? Is it a good place to watch the launch? The actual Space centre launch is sold out.

Thanks for any help.

No idea if it`s a good viewpoint but remember shuttle launches are often delayed for whatever reason.

You could probably just drive as close to the centre as possible and still get a good view once it`s in the sky....if you can`t see it on the launchpad it seems a bit pointless paying.

I`ve been there too and yes, the space centre is a great day out, but paying to watch a launch when you can`t see the shuttle on the launchpad seems pointless to me. You can see the thing from miles away once it`s in the sky.

There`s a car park and small picnic area on the main road just before you get into Titusville. Superb view from there - and you van have a barbeque whilst you`re there!

Thanks for your feedback.

Si, is that picnic area on the way into Titusville going north on highway 1?

Yes it is. It`s on the right hand side right by the water. We were lucky enough to be shown around the marina next to it and see all the manatees that live there.

Just found it on Google Earth. It`s actually a bit south of Titusville, just as you come into Indian River City:

Lat: 28°33`12.00"N
Long: 80°47`43.54"W

Hope this helps!

Well I hope to view the shuttle launch next year when I go Florida again and it will be the last chance as the last missions for the shuttle are 2010 and then they are taken out of service so catch a viewing while you can. An awesome site I guess it will be
