ok, not so much a new car but a 2nd hand one. Looking at a budget of about 7k at the moment. Dont want anything too expensive, and the mileage needs to be quite low also. Ideally it would have less than 20k on the clock, be around 2 years old. The Alfa is my current preference, but I admit to knowing little about cars so if you have heard anything negative about the above then let me know here.

Honda Civic even just for reliability alone.. Holds value pretty well too.

(zero votes for Citroen :o ;) )

.
A mate of mine has a Honda and I`m amazed it keeps going with the abuse he gives it.

According to the latest `Which` reliability reports, the new Honda Civic is giving Honda`s reliability record a bit of a beating. :/
The `old` Honda Civic is more reliable, but if there`s a better definition of a district nurse`s car then I`ve yet to see it.
Seriously, they are dull as hell (apart from the Type R,which is chav).
I`d forget the C4 too.
Nice car,but Citroen`s reliability record is shockingly bad.
Alfa fall in the middle somwehere.
Most seem to report they`re reliable enough, but their dealers let them down.
If you live near a decent Alfa dealer, you won`t get anything more stylish than a 147 for the money. 8)
Can I suggest you look at the Mazda 3 ?

Nice looking motor, reliable and highly rated within the motoring press.
Shares a lot with the Focus, but Mazda do it better.

PS,I`m glad to see the ubiquitous Golf isn`t in your list.
Dull, dull, dull DULL DULL,and no more reliable than anything else.

I like the styling of the honda, but make sure you opt for rear parking sensors as apparently you can`t see much out of the rear from drivers seat.

I like also the look of the Alfa, much more sporty than the others, but depreciates a bit quicker.

You can do something about that though.
I keep saying this, but depreciation is based on full RRP.
They take the full RRP then they take what it`s worth in 3 years.
Hey presto, your depreciation figure as a percentage.

HOWEVER,you show me anyone that pays full list for a 147 !
They`re heavily discounted.
So if you take the price you paid, then work out what it`s worth in 3 years, you get a TRUE depreciation figure.
Swings and roundabouts.
You can afford to take less for it in three years if you paid less for it in the first place !

At the moment I have a Honda Jazz. I voted for the Civic & will probably get a Civic next time. However I`ve had several Citroen`s & haven`t had any problems with them & I`d buy one tomorrow with no qualms. Alfa Romeo I wouldn`t give you tuppence for, much too much loss & many better cars out there.

Different people look for different things.
You drive a Honda Jazz,so it`s fair to say that you`re not bothered about style or performance.
You just want reliable A to B transport.
Alfas are for those who enjoy driving and Italian styling flare.
You can evidently compare your choice of cars with your taste in trainers.
You make do with supermarket trainers, some people want designer.
Vive la difference.

Ya` see, there you go again, pre judging people on what they drive & why they drive it.

I have posted why I have a Jazz before but here we go again. Our dog is 16 years old & can`t jump into a boot anymore. The Honda Jazz & the NEW Civic have seats that the part where you sit on lifts back into the back of the seat, (these are the only two cars that do this), this leaves a very big area for our dog to be able to go & because the door `steps` are a lot lower than a boot he gets in easily.

I`ve had an Alfa & lost more on that car than any other, that is apart from a brand new Lancia that I had & Esther Louise Rantzen decided to feature them on That`s life.

Which is a perfectly reasonable thing to do.
Generally,it works.
Jazz drivers generally don`t give a fig about performance.
Ferrari drivers generally don`t worry about fuel economy.
Need I go on ?

So ?
That hardly means they all suffer from the same thing.
That`s a generalisation,which you seem to hate.
