Decriminilisation of credit card fraud

Jimbo :oÞ (Elite Donator) posted this on Thursday, 21st June 2007, 13:23

Reading the AOL news pages and apparently the Home Office have now decided you can no longer directly report a Credit Card fraud to them but it`s down to the bank to decide what should and shouldn`t be reported!!??!!

Apparently this is so the police can "concentrate on offences with a more positive outcome" ?
Sounds like bulls***ting figures to me.
I understand the cops can be run ragged...aint it time more of our taxes were used to recruit officers and pay for the building of new prisons rather than let these thieves run wild?

In itself, it is, that`s why all the crims are going back to cheque fraud, and vicariously why a lot of shops and garages aren`t accepting cheques anymore

It`s crackable, but if it happens the banks won`t cover your bill like they would with signatures because they reckon it`s totally safe and you "must have told someone you PIN". Some people were on Watchdog about it early in the year.

I *much* prefer Chip and PIN to having to faff about signing for things though.

But you can hack a terminal\cardreader to play Tetris. 8)

I consider myself an optimist, albeit an optimist with cynical tendencies and a dark side that Lucifer himself would find a little creepy. (Perhaps you've noticed.) You don't normally associate cynicism with an upbeat pov. But I have exactly that combination and will defend it.

Maybe not the encryption in the terminal itself, but certainly the data between the pin console and the main PDQ box

I guess the banks aren`t asserting enough pressure on politicians to make this a more serious crime if they are thinking of decriminalising it!
