How old were you when you first started to drive?

floyd_dylan (Elite) posted this on Monday, 11th June 2007, 11:36

By that I mean legally first past your test, how many times it took you to pass your test, How long you`ve been driving.

I`m just wondering because I`m learning to drive for the first time, now that we have more kids, so they`re wanting to be driven here, there, and everywhere, and a lot of the times if their football match is in a village, the buses are less frequent.

Also I watched Trick or Treat with Derren Brown a few weeks back, and he said that he has never driven a car in his life! So are there people here who don`t drive at all, if so why not?

Started lessons when I was 18, failed my first test. Driving gets put on the back burner.

8 years later...

Pass my driving test at the tender age of 26 after doing a 1 week intensive course paid for by winning a photography competition (I would not have been able to do it without that).

I know someone who took 9 tests to pass.

Ricky Gervais can`t drive.

Passed first time, 1 minor and passed the theory with full marks. Piece of p***.

Didnt actually start driving properly until I was 26, though as i lived in the city and never needed a car. Moved down to oxford, which has appalling public transport and had to buy one pretty sharpish. Before that I just shared the wifes renault 5!

The driving test is basically about holding your nerve, which is why cocky little s***s like me pass first time and why women take at least 3 goes.

Started lessons the day of my 17th and passed first time 3 weeks later.
Mind you,the test was ludicrously easy then.
A ten minute drive around the block, read the numberplate on the Model T-Ford down the street and comment on the jaunty angle of the examiner`s hat.
I`d actually been driving since I was about 9 though, around fields and roads where I lived in the country.

My dads the same. He has been driving since he was about ten. They had a battered old mini that they used to drive around the fields to check on them. Someone had told him that a minis center of gravity was so low you couldnt roll it. Took him about 10 minutes to prove the theory wrong.

Started learning at about 19 but my instructor had a nervous breakdown (No, I`m sure it was nothing to do with me!) and I gave up for a bit.

Eventually passed at the age of 22 after 2 failures (put in for emergency cancellations both times so I took 3 tests in about a month)

First car was a bright yellow Mark II Escort, and I was quickly nicknamed the Yellow Peril by all that knew me.

Clean licence. I have been involved in a couple of minor accidents, neither of which were my fault (Honest, guv!)
