100 Greatest Films - Channel 4 - Saturday - what`s your 1-2-3 ?

Vittellus (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Thursday, 22nd November 2001, 19:45

Hi everyone,
Just thought I would leave a short message about the new Radio Times Magazine that I bought today. On the front cover it shows a picture of the giant epic GLADIATOR and say "Is this the greatest film of all time?" which is shown on Channel 4 on Saturday.

I must say that it is my favourite film of all time as it has a such a superb cast, music that blends in so well with the script, and portrays a very strong message to everyone of determnation and faith within oneself in achieving anything. I can watch it time after time and always it is so powerful and exciting, and quite sad.

Respect..
.

Just to make this clear, the film "Gladiator" is not being shown on TV. It`s part of THE 100 GREATEST FILMS being shown on Saturday at 9pm, presented by Graham Norton. Might be an interesting programme...

You`re right, of course, Anil - isn`t it being shown on Sky at present ?

The original poster is also correct - Gladiator is a very inspirational film, although I think Maximus was at a slight advantage to most of us, as he was already held in high regard as a General, whereas I certainly haven`t reached those dizzy heights, been sacked, and then come back and socked it to my bosses (anyone had this great pleasure ?). But it is, nonetheless, a very very brilliant movie (and Ollie Reed`s last stand, which is vital to me as a Britflick fan...)

I actually remember voting for the 100 Greatest Films, altho` I think I was very, very drunk when I voted, and may have elected for Carry On At Your Convenience as my best film ever (tell a lie, it was, of course (as regulars here will know) `Heat`).

As Anil says, I think this will be a VERY interesting programme. Votes on the top film ever. Can only be one of a few...

(1) Star Wars
(2) Jaws
(3) Gandhi

Any other ideas....

Hey Clayts,

I`m waiting for the day when I knock out my old boss...it will happen, one day...

Part of me wants to watch the programme on Saturday just out of curiosity, but I know someone out there will have voted for some Carry On At Your Convenience movie at which point I`ll hurl verbal abuse at no one in particular and go to straight to bed and pop on one of my top three:

1.North by Northwest
2.Terminator 2
3.The Shawshank Redemption

:-)

Anyone else?
