Page 1 of Two Firefighters Killed

Once again two firefighters have paid the ultimate price protecting their community. My deepest sympathy to their families and members of the East Sussex Fire Brigade :(

its times like this that bring home the reality of firefighters and the dangers they face. When so many column inches are given to `our brave troops in Iraq` you can forget that we have `brave troops` working in our communities every day in the form of the emergency services who sometimes pay the ultimate price :(

Yes, I had a couple of minutes silence in honour of those poor men when I heard the news. It`s incredibly sad whenever any members of our emergency services lose their lives in the course of duty.

In no way do I want to minimise the sacrifice that these men have made, the East Sussex fire chief made a statement on the local news that these men were the first to die, in service (or on a shout) for 30 years. This surprised me as i thought the figure was much higher.

That was just in East Sussex though. The figure is higher if you look at national statistics.
