Mobile needs to be off. ;)

apparently like the ipod or any other electrical device this is only on landing and takeoff... whilst in the states recently i was alarmed to see people messing with mobiles while we were flying, but it appears that you can do so? None of the cabin crew seemed too alarmed and did nothing about it, so i gues on internal flights its the norm? cant for the life of me work out how they got a signal though at 38000 feet?

Mobile needs to be off before I rip someones head off 10 mins into the flight.

Where are you?
On the plane.
Did you get to the airport allright?
10 mins to spare
Phew that was lucky
Motorway was jammed solid & security gave me a full body search
How long is your flight?
12 hours, we are 2 hours late so can you tell David that when you get the chance.

Both can go in hand luggage, but have to go through the scanner, not in your pockets at security (You have to take off jackets, put laptops through separately and possibly remove belts/shoes (variable policy on this at the moment). Once onboard, you can use the mobile until the plane doors are closed, then NOT AT ALL during flight. This is the situation with almost all airlines at the moment, although as mentioned, some US carriers allow them on internal flights. Major carriers like BA and Virgin are "looking into it", but like Rassilon, I hope it never happens.

word of warning if you have a phone like the W800i which has `flight mode`, don`t bother using it, trying explain to cabin staff and the other f***wits around you that the phone bit is off and it`s just an mp3 player is f***in torture!

Thats why I don`t use a converged device (with phone) for keeping me entertained on planes.

Last flight I was on they said during the safety babble that you can`t have a mobile turned on "even if it is in flight mode". So it seems they do know about it but completely disregard it. Most likely just to be awkward.
