Why are Raspberry flavoured things coloured blue?

richardbradley66 (Competent) posted this on Monday, 15th March 2004, 01:43

I had a chew the other day (not on the missis) it was raspberry flavoured and it was a blue colour! Then i looked at the site reccommended on here for sweets and they had sherbet......raspberry flavour....and thats coloured blue! Then my mate Rob said...."Raspberry slush puppies are blue too" (although i have yet to confirm this one).....are there any more and can anyone tell me why this is?

Richie.

Maybe its so as not to confuse them from Strawberry and/or Cherry - don`t get me wrong I`ve never sat down and pondered this question along with life, the universe and everything else. BTW I can confirm Raspberry slushes were blue.
Hmmm.....just had a thought about telly ads for sanitary towels, think I`ll go and prick myself just to check the colour!
Pete ;)

If raspberry slushes *weren`t* blue there would be a lack of blue in the Slush Puppy spectrum. Having said that there *are* FOUL blue "bubblegum" flavoured (rip-off!)Slush Puppies that I`ve got by accident before... yuck.

Blue raspberry is my favourite ice-pop flavour too,

Yeah, it`s probably because all the other colours were used up. Sort of like how Pringles had to make their Cheese and Onion tubes purple because they were already using green for Sour Cream.

I don`t think it`s particularly helpful, though - as far as I`m concerned, blue is the colour of unappetising things such as mouthwash, Clearasil, and Blue WKD.

Couldn`t they have made the Cheese and Onion blue like Walker`s. I`d agree though that green is the traditional colour for cheese and onion, and blue for S & V. Walker`s have got it wrong.

Isn`t Blue WKD supposed to be raspberry flavour?

Sounds like one of Harry Hill`s sketches

More to the point, where does the "Puppies" bit come from in Slush Puppies? Bollcoks to them being the wrong colour, if there blatantly isn`t a dog in there then it`s a case for the Trading Standards association.

I remember raspberry ice poles being blue when I was a kiddie and assumed it was to distinguish them from strawberry ones.

Raspberry frozen cup drink things are a pinky-red. So it should be easy to tell red strawberry from pinky-red raspberry.

Raspberry Millions are a different shade of pink than Strawberry Millions (unless they`re blue now or something)

But the added bonus with blue raspberry is the tongue-dying magicalness. Artificial colours... yum! :p

Has anyone else ever had *multi-coloured* "raspberry" sauce on their Mr Whippy(style) ice cream before?
