Damaged rental DVDs at Blockbuster branches

Yves (Harmless) posted this on Sunday, 23rd January 2000, 17:34

So far I have rented 6 disks from the Wembley branch and 2 have had the same defect. This is cracks in the centre hub of the disk presumably caused by a previous renter forcing the disk off its retainer in the case.

This defect is annoying as the player cannot be firmly grip the disk so picture dropouts occur.

It would appear that Blockbuster staff do not examine returned disks for damage. On each occasion they have offered disk a replacement disk or credit without any argument but you do face a ruined evening`s viewing if you get one of these damaged disks.

I strongly recommend checking the disk hub for cracks *before* you leave Blockbuster so as to avoid a frustrating trip back to swap disks.

Agreed.

When renting a DVD or VHS tape from anywhere, always check it`s at least the right movie before you walk out. I`ve only got a ten minute drive to the local store, but I remember it still being bloody annoying when I had to do this.

If you end up going back the next day with a dodgy disk I guess it depends on the staff as to whether or not they will accuse *you* of damaging the disk, for which they could impose a fine. Remember that the store Manager will no doubt believe that his staff followed procedure and checked it was fine when given out.....

In defence of Blockbuster.....

For the month of January only they have the offer, buy two DVD films and get another DVD film free.

So there.......
