Getting rid of Mr Zulu

AShearer (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Tuesday, 22nd July 2003, 17:07

In the past couple of weeks I have received 3 or 4 emails on the Nigerian cash scam - thats now been taken on by a Mr Zulu and his South African friends. I think there was an email address that you forward these on to - to see if the authorities can track the shysters down - anybody know it ?

Its just that having forwarded my £30k to Mr Zulu - he has reduced my amount from $45m to $22.5m. Saw a program last week and people have actually lost tens of thousands to this scam - I know I shouldn`t be surprised - the scam wouldn`t continue unless some idiots fell for it.

Regards,
Big Fat Billy

I know we all hate spammers, so I`m going to share something with you.

I`ve been running a honeypot proxy server, that pretends to be a real open proxy that spammers use to hide their IP address when relaying mail through open mail relays.

Two spammers have spent the last week sending thousands of mails through this server, only of course all that is really happening is copies are sitting on my server`s hard drive, and everything (including their true originating IPs) are logged.

On the downside, their respective ISPs don`t care, at least they don`t reply to any emails. On the upside, these idiots will keep using this server and are probably losing money because of it.

Heh, reminds me of that spammer in the US who tried to sue the geeks who signed up his home address to every mail order catalogue and freebie in the states they could find.
