I just don`t get it.
As I have posted in another thread there have been a number of attempted/sucsessfull break ins at hi-fi type shops in Leicester. They are after plasmas. Untill I can get the securaty beefed up I am sleeping here.
To my story. Last night I woke up to a loud bang. Then another. It was a bloke in a bad mood taking it out on my windows. I go out side and ask him to stop. His two mates drag him off and I go back inside. I can hear him hitting various things as he goes down the road. He then runs back and has another go at my window. I grab my baseball bat (remember there are three of them) and by the time I have got out side his mates are draging him round the corner. I go back in and lock up. Within a miniut (sp?) the police are knocking on my shutter. Great I thought the boys in blue are going to do somthing about it. I open up and and I am about to tell them that the lads are just round the corner when they threaten me with arrest! I explain again what has just happened and that they are just round the corner (you could still hear him shouting) Not interested. Apparently swearing at a police officer is not good. I explain to them that if someone trys to break in to my place I will use my bat. They explain that they will arrest me. We agree on this and they stroll of in the other direction to the still audibul (sp?) lads.
Sorry for the long rant but I just don`t get it.
All the best,

Ahhh the joys of the British legal system and the minority of coppers who have no common sense.
Makes you proud, doesn`t it!

Coppers - What W***ers!
Make sure you right to the Leiceter Mercury with that one - they`ll love a good story like that!
Neil
How about you file a complaint against the officers involved? You can always withdraw it later.

42%er you was bang on, I don`t see you did anything wrong.
Looks like police these days are becoming more and more useless with gun crime on the up. Well in London anyway. There too scared to deal with the real criminals and waste time with street vegrants.
If you ever step out again and there`s more than 1 make sure you keep you bat close ot hand.
Anyways sorry to hear about your troubles.

According to a program on BBC1 the other night, as long as you didn`t intend to inflict damage on the burglar, and were just defending yourself because you feared for your safety, you can hit them as hard as you like.
So telling them to leave the premesis, them ignoring you and coming towards you is grounds enough. But chasing them out of the building and down the street would be illegal.

Don`t worry about it Andrew! Off for my Summer musical travels next week in clotted cream land (and for some undercover WEA activities as well)....anything you might need that would keep you going through these dark and hazardous hours? :D

All the best,

I heard that if you use a rubber baseball bat - as opposed to a wooden or metal one it leaves no bruises or marks really - but hurts just as much as the others....
Good Luck.
RE: I just don`t get it.
Alan, I hear that clotted cream has magical baseball bat mending powers ;)
Have a good time.
I may invest in a rubber one, cheers.
All the best,
