People become rather irrational at times. I understand the clamour for the death penalty especially now but it`s no solution.

We do however need to toughen up the sentencing. Life should mean life with no chance whatsoever of parole. In fact, do away with parole, let people serve the full sentence.

Why the Bulger killers didn`t get life is beyond me. Please don`t say "there were only children", they knew exactly what they were doing.

We should instigate the "3 strikes and your out rule" as in the States, people who commit crime obviously have no concern for their victims so why as a society should we show them any leniency.

We are too liberal in this country, far too many "do gooders" who make a living interfering and feeling sorry for the criminals rather than the victims.

The only way to cut crime is to put people in prison and leave them there!

Anyway, I`m off to a flogging......

I agree without doubt!

Hanging, Lethel Injection, The Chair..... People who commit these types of horrible crime should pay with there lives, why should society shell out money to keep them in jail is beyond me.

Top Cat,

Just a thought, It may not be a solution to the problem but would it not be a deterrent if the thought of getting fryed was a valid possibility?

The death penalty does not deter those who are hellbent on committing crime, or because of their (sick) personalities/poor upbringing are predisposed to a life of crime.

The crimes that determine a death penalty will still take place, irrespective of the deterrent intended by the policy makers, I`m afraid.

There ain`t no magic wand, I`m afraid...

Solution one:

I, personally, think that anyone who is a threat to society, who willingly commit violent crimes on everyday, law abiding, decent people should be erradicated...full stop.

Some of this ****ers cannot or will not be reformed and I think the only way to be certain of them not re-offending is to get rid of them once and for all. What do we do with vicious animals?...we get rid,we should do the same with these so-called human beings.

Solution two:

If we can`t wipe them off the face of the earth then why not make them the equivalent of lab rats. Let`s put them to use for the good of us all, experiment on the ****ers, make them human(!) guinea pigs, at least that way we will get some good out of them.

I`m sick of hearing stories, on a daily basis, of how someone has suffered at the hands of some sick b*stard only for the perpertrator of these crimes to get off, virtually scott free thanks to the ever increasing army of PC do-gooders. These bleeding-heart liberals are constantly bleating on about human rights of the b*strds that commit these fouls acts while conveniently forgetting about the rights of the poor victims who never chose to be, unlike the villain, in such a terrible situation.

There needs to be change because, right now, commiting a crime doesn`t appear to be too much of a bad thing. I honestly think society is in a state of demise, people have no sense of manners, no sense of respect, and are getting more and more arrogant and unfeeling with each day that passes..wrapped up in their own selfish little worlds.

Anyhoo, I`ve had me rant so I`m off.

Paull,
When we had the death penalty, it WAS only there for when there was no doubt.. Mistakes were still made......
Can you imagine, if after such a hideous crime, some amazing set of co-incidences pointed to you or someone in your family but you knew it wasn`t possible and yet your/their life was still taken.
There`s no parole/reprieve from death.

As horrific as this crime is appearing to be the idea of being put to death mistakenly cannot be taken lightly.
I cannot imagine what those poor parents are going through. I`m a dad myself - I wonder how many other parents have looked at their children over the last 2 weeks or so and had that shiver down their spine, a tear in their eye and just realised how absolutely precious they are.

"I think Yes. If there is no doubt."

I can`t remember the chaps name (stephen I think) He spent about 20 years in prison for a child killing in the derby area. To spend 20 years inside you would have to say there was "no doubt". That was of course until it was proved beyond all doubt that he could not have done it.

Andrew.

You`ve only got to look at america to realise that the death penalty does not work!
Something needs to be done, but going back and making the same mistakes over again is not the answer!
