HELP! Nintendo DS R4 card query...

Oakland_Raider (Competent) posted this on Saturday, 23rd January 2010, 21:47

My wife has an original R4 card for the Nintendo DS.

I decided to update the firmware for the SDHC card (she`d been having trouble playing the newer games). I downloaded the latest version 1.26, and it seemed fine. I got the basic
menu screen working no problem. However, when i put back onto the SD card the games she had been playing, the card would not load up. The only thing that appeared was "loading" logo. So, i deleted the games off, and tried the card again, but this time no start up menu :/

I am at a loss as to what to do next. The wife is non pleased at the thought of all her game saves being lost. Any ideas how to get the thing working again?

Cheers

My sister had some problems with her DSTT that were fixed by a defrag. Otherwise try reformatting the card or going back to the old firmware.

Formatted the card, but unfortunately i don`t have the old firmware. Made a big mistake in not saving all the relevant files for the card when moving stuff off and updating with new firmware. I misseed off a couple of files and now am buggered! >:(

I`ve tried version 1.18 / 1.19 / 1.23 / 1.24 / 1.26 and none of them work.

It`s probably not a genuine R4, so you`ll need to visit the site that makes the clone of it for their specific firmware. You might also find it on GBAX.com.

It is a genuine R4 card but i have managed, by a process of elimination, that the R4 card is no good. Put the SD card in another R4 and it worked. Tried the SD in mine, no good.
I think when installed the firmware update, it said it was for the R4 DS, but it appears to be a R4 DSi firmware. Whatever it was, it`s frazzled the R4 card. >:(

I`ve just ordered a new one from Memorybits.

Cheers for all the advice guys. :)

I did read somewhere of the possibility of using genuine firmware with a fake card (or vice versa) frazzling the card, but others said it was a myth. However if you are absolutely sure your card is 100% identical to the other one you tried it in, then maybe thats true. :/

The newest firmware for DSTT did that, but there was a fix and an unofficial version was brought out with that disabled.

Does it take Micro SDHC cards? If so (as opposed to the lower capacity Micro SD) then it is definitely a clone/fake. I think this is the site which is the most common clone:

http://www.r4ds.com/

There was a website I found once (and can`t seem to locate again) that had firmware for all the R4 clones.

Yes it does take the Micro SDHC card, and the packaging from MemoryBits is the sames as advertised on the website you linked to http://www.r4ds.com

Looks like a clone then :/

Here`s me thinking a clone was a member of the Republic Army :D
